Job Title: 2nd Shift CNC Vertical Mill Machinist
Job Description
This role operates CNC vertical mills in a job shop environment, producing precision components from various metals while maintaining extremely tight tolerances. You will set up, program, and run CNC equipment, primarily Mazak machines, to meet detailed part specifications using GD&T and blueprint reading skills. The position is on 2nd shift and involves frequent changeovers, troubleshooting, and continuous machine upkeep in a clean, climate-controlled facility.
Responsibilities
Operate CNC verticall mills in a job shop environment to machine various metals while maintaining tight tolerances.
Run existing CNC programs and adjust parameters at the machine to achieve required part specifications.
Perform complete machine setups, including fixturing, tooling, offsets, and verification of first-piece quality.
Carry out machine tear downs and changeovers multiple times per shift as required by production demands.
Operate Mazak and other CNC machine brands safely and efficiently.
Use GD&T principles and read blueprints daily to interpret part requirements and ensure dimensional accuracy.
Apply G and M code at the machine to modify or create programs as needed for specific jobs.
Utilize conversational programming (where applicable) to streamline setup and production.
Work with tolerances that are tighter than those typically required in aeronautic and medical industries, ensuring high precision.
Troubleshoot machine errors, alarms, and performance issues to minimize downtime and maintain productivity.
Perform routine machine upkeep and basic maintenance to keep equipment in optimal operating condition.
Collaborate with programmers who handle more complex jobs using AutoCAD and Mastercam, ensuring smooth handoffs and clear communication.
Inspect parts during and after machining to confirm they meet all specifications and quality standards.
Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all safety procedures and shop policies.
Contribute to a team-oriented environment by sharing knowledge, supporting coworkers, and participating in training or apprenticeship programs.
Essential Skills
At least 2+ years of experience operating, setting up, and programming CNC machines in a job shop environment.
Hands-on experience with CNC vertical mills, including full setups and tear downs.
Proficiency operating Mazak CNC lathes and familiarity with Mazak equipment.
Ability to program at the machine using G and M code (machine control language).
Experience performing multiple setups, tear downs, and changeovers per shift as production requires.
Strong understanding and practical use of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) in daily work.
Proven ability to hold extremely tight tolerances, including tolerances tighter than those typically used in aeronautic and medical industries.
Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints and technical drawings accurately.
Experience operating in a job shop environment with varied parts, materials, and short-run jobs.
Troubleshooting skills for resolving CNC machine errors and issues during production.
Comfort working with conversational control languages at the machine where applicable.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with Mazak machines using Mazatrol control systems.
Familiarity with conversational programming on CNC equipment.
Exposure to working alongside programmers who use AutoCAD and Mastercam for more complex jobs.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $41600.00 - $58240.00/yr.
