About the Position
The Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind (CSDB) is seeking dedicated and compassionate professionals to serve as Health Care Technician I (Residential Supervisors) within the Student Life Program. These positions play a critical role in supporting Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind students in a residential setting outside of the traditional classroom environment.
Student Life provides opportunities for students to develop independence, social skills, self-advocacy, and life skills through structured residential programming, extracurricular activities, and community engagement. Residential Supervisors help create a safe, supportive, and enriching environment that promotes student growth and success.
What You'll DoEnsure Student Safety and Well-Being
Maintain accountability for students throughout assigned shifts.
Monitor student whereabouts and provide continuous supervision.
Ensure dormitory security and adherence to safety procedures.
Respond appropriately to medical, behavioral, and emergency situations.
Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly living environment.
Support Student Development
Foster positive social, emotional, and behavioral growth.
Utilize behavior management and problem-solving techniques.
Reinforce residential curriculum and independent living skills.
Provide guidance and support during daily activities and routines.
Collaborate with Staff and Families
Communicate student concerns, progress, and incidents with appropriate staff.
Coordinate with teachers, nursing staff, counselors, and other professionals.
Participate in team meetings and ongoing student support planning.
Supervise Activities and Transportation
Assist with after-school activities, recreation, and special events.
Supervise students during meals and community outings.
Transport students using state vehicles as assigned.
Ensure student safety during all off-campus activities.
Participate in Professional Development
Attend required trainings and staff meetings.
Maintain required certifications and credentials.
Stay current on best practices related to student care and residential programming.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Health Care Technician I: Education/Licensure/Certification/Experience:
High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
No Substitutions Medication Aides ONLY: Education/Licensure/Certification/Experience:
High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
Certification or licensure appropriate to the work assigned to the position
No Substitutions Special Qualifications: American Sign Language (ASL)
Advanced proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required prior to starting.
Ability to communicate effectively with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in a residential environment.
Experience
One of the following:
Six (6) months of experience working with children or youth who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, DeafBlind, blind/visually impaired, or have special needs;OR
A combination of related education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a residential, educational, behavioral health, childcare, or youth development setting.
Experience working with Deaf, Hard of Hearing, or DeafBlind individuals.
Knowledge of positive behavior supports and crisis intervention techniques.
Experience supporting students with multiple disabilities or complex needs.
CPR and First Aid certification.
