Duties Description Under the supervision of higher-level personnel, the Park Worker 3 may be engaged in the performance or coordination of, but not limited to, the following tasks and activities as described:- Interfaces with park employees and patrons regarding informational questions, resolving complaints and concerns pertaining to park and golf operations.- Assists in the daily operation of the park's reservation systems (ForeUp & Reserve America)- Monitors Park emails and responds promptly to customer issues and questions.- Assists in the preparation and operations of golf outings (large and small), special events on course, polo events and picnic events.- Assist in conducting inspections of the clubhouse, playgrounds, sports and polo fields, and golf course areas, ensuring they are clean and safe.- Assists in supervising, training, and scheduling lower-level permanent staff, in addition to seasonal and volunteer staff.- Assists with clubhouse and picnic grounds maintenance, sometimes supervising seasonal staff in doing so.- Performs other related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications One year of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility; OR - One year of experience in any of the following fields:- Law enforcement or security- Firefighting- Emergency Medical Services - Environmental education or stewardship- Natural resources management (e.g., forest management, wildlife management/preservation)- Historic preservation or interpretation- Landscaping or grounds maintenance OR - One year of military service in any branch of the United States Armed Forces;OR - Thirty (30) semester credit hours of college-level coursework from an accredited college or university;OR - Completion of a two-year technical/trades school program;OR - Two years of experience as a trade assistant working under the direct supervision of a skilled tradespersonYour degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. Additional Comments Positions located within Nassau County are also eligible to receive an additional $4,000 annual downstate adjustment. Salary Information:Park Worker 3, SG-9 (CSEA) $46,641 - $56,413 (the starting salary indicated combines the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 9 ($42,641) and the Downstate Adjustment ($4,000). Similarly, the job rate posted is a combination of the statutory job rate ($52,413) and the Downstate Adjustment ($4,000).Operational Needs: - Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment- Must have the ability to follow directions and communicate with staff and the public, and respond to patrons' concerns or complaints in an effective and positive manner- Experience with Microsoft Excel and good typing/computer skills- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. and be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor, and stand for long periods of time- The incumbent will be required to work a variable schedule including weekends, holidays, days and evenings Benefits: The NYS Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation offers a generous benefits package that includes but is not limited to:Paid Time Off:- CSEA: 44 days - 13 Vacation days, 13 Sick days, and 5 Personal Leave days, 13 Holidays.
