Job Title: Construction SuperintendentJob Description
The Construction Superintendent leads onsite operations for assigned commercial construction projects, overseeing installers and field employees from planning through completion. This role manages multiple carpenters across several jobsites, coordinates budgeting and scheduling activities, and ensures that contractors and field staff work safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project specifications. The superintendent also performs hands-on carpentry work when needed and upholds strict safety, quality, and efficiency standards to maintain a secure and well-organized construction site.
Responsibilities
Lead all onsite construction activities for assigned commercial projects from planning through completion.
Supervise and coordinate installers, carpenters, and field employees across multiple jobsites.
Manage day-to-day field operations, including scheduling labor, subcontractors, and materials.
Review, interpret, and implement construction documents and blueprints to ensure accurate execution of work.
Oversee commercial carpentry activities such as framing, drywall, ceilings, flooring, and steel stud installation.
Monitor quality of workmanship and materials to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
Enforce and promote safety procedures and protocols to maintain a safe and secure jobsite.
Apply construction supervision best practices on ground-up, retail, mixed-use, and other commercial building projects.
Coordinate with contractors and field staff to resolve onsite issues and keep projects on schedule and within scope.
Perform hands-on carpentry and metal framing work when needed to support project progress.
Track project progress and adjust schedules or resource allocation to maintain efficiency and productivity.
Support budgeting efforts by providing field insights on labor, materials, and sequencing.
Foster a collaborative, team-first culture onsite where team members support and look out for one another.
Prepare the field operations needed to support long-term growth into project management responsibilities.
Essential Skills
Minimum 5+ years of commercial carpentry experience.
At least 3+ years of experience reading and interpreting blueprints and construction documents.
At least 3+ years of experience managing contractors or field staff in a commercial construction environment.
Proficiency in commercial construction practices, including ground-up and commercial building projects.
Ability to read, understand, and apply construction documents and blueprints to field operations.
Hands-on skills in carpentry, framing, drywall, ceilings, flooring, and steel stud installation.
Experience with construction supervision on retail, mixed-use, and other commercial project @types.
Knowledge of OSHA 30-level safety principles and construction site safety standards.
Strong leadership skills to direct multiple crews and jobsites simultaneously.
Ability to balance supervisory responsibilities with hands-on carpentry work as needed.
Solid understanding of metal framing and steel stud construction methods.
Capability to monitor and maintain safety, quality, and efficiency standards on active jobsites.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working on hospitals, hotels, schools, restaurants, and other large commercial buildings.
Background in ground-up construction and commercial building projects.
Familiarity with retail and mixed-use construction environments.
Interest in growing into a project management role over time.
Strong communication and coordination skills for working with contractors and field staff.
Ability to work effectively in a close-knit, team-first culture where collaboration and mutual support are valued.
Work Environment
This role operates within a commercial construction environment focused on building projects such as hospitals, hotels, schools, restaurants, and large commercial buildings. The superintendent typically works 40-50 hours per week and can expect year-round employment with consistent work and no seasonal layoffs. The position involves regular presence on active construction sites, coordination across multiple jobsites, and hands-on interaction with carpentry, framing, drywall, ceilings, flooring, and steel stud construction. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $26.45 - $35.00/hr.
