Job Title: Research Assistant
Job Description
The Research Assistant will support the Research and Development (R&D) team across multiple projects focused on data integrity, system migration, and experimental design. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment. The position offers the opportunity to contribute directly to innovation, process optimization, and high-impact R&D initiatives within a modern, growth-oriented manufacturing setting.
Responsibilities
Review and validate Bill of Materials (BOM) data within internal systems to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Identify discrepancies in BOM records, correct errors, and maintain high standards of data integrity.
Create, update, and maintain records so that all information remains current, accurate, and properly documented.
Support the migration of R&D data and documentation into the SAGE system, ensuring smooth and accurate data transfer.
Manually enter data from legacy systems into SAGE with a high level of precision and attention to detail.
Capture and document technical attributes such as particle size and water activity accurately within relevant systems.
Assist in designing and executing small-scale blending experiments to support R&D and process development activities.
Operate and utilize lab-scale equipment to evaluate blend times and mixing performance, ensuring optimal blending efficiency.
Document experimental procedures, observations, and results thoroughly, supporting analysis and reporting for batching and formulation optimization.
Collaborate closely with R&D, production, and other internal teams to support timely project completion and alignment with business needs.
Communicate project progress, findings, and issues clearly and proactively to stakeholders and team members.
Perform other related duties as assigned to support R&D initiatives and overall departmental objectives.
Essential Skills
Demonstrated research skills with the ability to support experimental design and data collection in an R&D environment.
Strong data entry skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and their application in a manufacturing or laboratory setting.
Proven ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
Strong problem-solving skills with a practical, hands-on approach to tasks and challenges.
Proficiency working across multiple systems and platforms, including experience with data migration or system transitions.
Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to maintain clear, accurate, and well-structured records and documentation.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in life science discipline.
Prior experience in a GMP manufacturing environment preferred, but not required.
Experience working with R&D, production, or operations teams in a manufacturing or laboratory setting.
Familiarity with ERP or business systems such as SAGE, particularly for data entry and system migration activities.
Interest in powdered dietary supplements, functional foods, or related product categories.
Comfort working in both office and lab/pilot plant settings and transitioning between computer-based and hands-on tasks.
Motivation to contribute to continuous improvement, innovation, and process optimization within an R&D function.
Work Environment
This is a 3-month contract role supporting multiple active R&D projects in a dynamic, growth-oriented organization. Standard hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with flexible start times available between 6:30 AM and 9:00 AM as long as core hours are covered. The position is based in a GMP-regulated manufacturing environment, with approximately 75% of time spent working on a computer and 25% in the pilot plant and laboratory. The site employs around 200 people, with most staff supporting production and operations, creating a collaborative, cross-functional atmosphere. The manufacturing floor handles powdered dietary supplements, resulting in noticeable odors often described as fruity or sweet. The role provides exposure to modernized systems, enhanced manufacturing capabilities, and a highly invested R&D function that is driving innovation and working toward elevated quality certifications. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr.
