Position Overview
This work is onsite/hybrid in New York, NASA GISS.
NASA's Earth Science Division (ESD) is establishing a Private Sector Engagement Office to increase the visibility, accessibility, utilization, and impact of NASA Earth science data, models, tools, and capabilities across priority private-sector user communities. This effort supports growing demand for Earth observation and geospatial information across sectors including finance, insurance, reinsurance, food and agriculture, energy, utilities, and other industries that depend on trusted environmental information for operational planning, risk management, investment strategy, and decision-making.
Seeking a Principal Education and Outreach Coordinator to serve as the Industry Engagement and Sector Applications Lead supporting the Earth Science Division's Strategic Private Sector Engagement Office. The selected candidate will help establish and operationalize a structured approach for identifying, qualifying, prioritizing, and advancing high-value stakeholder relationships and external engagement opportunities that align with NASA Earth Science Division objectives.
This position will support development and implementation of disciplined stakeholder engagement, sector applications, and user-needs translation activities that connect NASA Earth science capabilities with external user communities. The incumbent will work closely with Earth Science leadership at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC), NASA Headquarters, other NASA centers, scientific and technical teams, project offices, partnership organizations, academic institutions, and commercial stakeholders.
The role requires a strategic thinker with strong communication, coordination, stakeholder engagement, and applied science translation skills who can help bridge NASA Earth science capabilities with private-sector needs and applications.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement stakeholder engagement strategies and sector application approaches for priority private-sector communities
Support operational development of the Earth Science Division's Private Sector Engagement Office
Identify, assess, and prioritize engagement opportunities aligned with NASA Earth Science Division objectives
Conduct stakeholder mapping, ecosystem analysis, and user-needs assessments across assigned industry sectors
Develop and maintain relationships with commercial, academic, nonprofit, and government stakeholders
Translate external interest and sector demand signals into actionable engagement opportunities and mission-relevant recommendations
Coordinate engagement activities across NASA Headquarters, GSFC leadership, project offices, data and product teams, and other NASA centers
Develop practical engagement playbooks, outreach roadmaps, briefing materials, and stakeholder communication products
Support conference participation, workshops, technical exchanges, strategic meetings, and stakeholder events
Prepare executive summaries, meeting readouts, decision-ready briefings, status reports, and strategic communications
Track stakeholder interactions, engagement pipelines, partnership activities, and opportunity status using structured coordination and portfolio management tools
Support development of NASA Earth Science value propositions tailored to sector-specific user needs and decision @contexts
Identify barriers to adoption and recommend approaches to improve accessibility and utilization of NASA Earth science data and capabilities
Provide regular reporting on sector trends, stakeholder priorities, emerging opportunities, engagement risks, and recommended actions
Collaborate with scientists, applications teams, partnership offices, and communications personnel to ensure technical accuracy and effective stakeholder engagement
Required Qualifications:
Education
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Policy, Environmental Science, Earth Science, Geospatial Science, Business, International Affairs, Technology Management, Education, or related field
Experience
Approximately 7+ years of professional experience in stakeholder engagement, partnership support, applied science coordination, outreach, technology translation, science communications, or related areas within technical or mission-driven environments
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated ability to develop stakeholder engagement strategies, outreach plans, execution roadmaps, and engagement playbooks
Experience assessing external user needs, market trends, demand signals, adoption barriers, and stakeholder priorities
Experience managing stakeholder relationships and coordinating engagement activities across multiple organizations or sectors
Strong organizational and project coordination skills with experience tracking engagement activities, action items, and opportunity pipelines
Experience supporting cross-functional collaboration among technical, scientific, operational, and leadership teams
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of executive-level briefings, reports, summaries, and outreach materials
Experience with stakeholder databases, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, engagement tracking tools, or portfolio management workflows
Ability to translate complex technical or scientific information into accessible and actionable content for diverse audiences
Ability to work independently in a dynamic and evolving strategic engagement environment
Desired Qualifications:
Familiarity with Earth observation, remote sensing, geospatial technologies, environmental data, climate applications, or Earth science programs
Experience supporting public-private partnerships, strategic engagement initiatives, or applied science programs
Experience working within NASA, other federal agencies, federally funded research environments, or mission-driven scientific organizations
Familiarity with industry sectors such as finance, insurance, agriculture, energy, utilities, sustainability, resilience, or climate risk analytics
Experience supporting science data utilization, technology adoption, or operationalization of scientific capabilities
Understanding of stakeholder ecosystem development, partnership frameworks, and sector engagement models
Experience supporting conferences, workshops, strategic planning activities, or executive coordination efforts
