GS-8 LEVEL GRADE REQUIREMENTS: You must possess at least one (1) year of experience that is directly related to the duties of a Medical Support Assistant and that equips you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. This experience must be equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-7) and demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with current MSA responsibilities. Experience at this level includes, but is not limited to: the ability to organize work, set priorities, and delegate tasks/responsibilities in order to meet deadlines; skill in communicating with individuals in order to obtain the desired effect, ensuring compliance with established policies and regulations; ability to provide staff development and training; ability to manage staffing requirements, manage priorities, and coordinate work in order to complete duties in an accurate and timely manner; ability to follow-up on pending issues and demonstrating an understanding of the impact of incomplete work; and the ability to review and monitor data to ensure all reports are complete and accurate; advanced knowledge of managing a clinic; advanced knowledge of policies and procedures associated with operational activities that affect patient flow, patient care, and the revenue process; and advanced knowledge of medical terminology. In addition to the above experience, you must demonstration of the following KSAs: (1) Advanced knowledge of managing or leading patient support staff in a clinic. This includes independently utilizing reference sources, decision making, and empowering the team to collaborate and resolve problems within a complex systems environment. (2) Ability to provide the full range of administrative and supervisory duties to at least one subordinate MSA supervisor or team leader in a patient support setting which includes assignment of work, performance evaluations, selection of staff, and recommendation of awards and/or advancements (3) Ability to collaborate, communicate, and demonstrate customer service and interpersonal skills with internal and external customers to ensure quality/continuity of care and ensure compliance with established policies and regulations. (4) Ability to provide briefings, orientations, staff development, and training in a patient support setting. (5) Ability to manage fiscal matters, forecast resource and equipment needs, and identify budget needs. Preferred Experience: Lead Medical Support Assistant experience or greater for 1-3 years. Experience supervising, recruiting, training and personal management in a high pace outpatient healthcare environment.
