Job Title: Accounting Project Manager
Job Description
The Accounting Project Manager oversees key accounting projects and month-end activities to ensure expenses are accurately recorded in accordance with GAAP. This role focuses on project setup, large-volume general ledger reconciliations, and supporting self-distribution project rollouts for the accounting group. The Accounting Project Manager collaborates closely with business users, performs system testing from an accounting perspective, and acts as a liaison for inventory adjustment exceptions. The position requires strong analytical skills, advanced Excel capabilities, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Responsibilities
Evaluate, review, and perform expense accruals at month end to ensure company expenses are properly and adequately recorded in accordance with GAAP.
Set up and configure accounting-related projects to support business and financial reporting needs.
Review and reconcile large-volume general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Support the rollout of self-distribution projects for the accounting group, ensuring accounting processes and controls align with project objectives.
Collaborate with multiple business users to define project requirements and translate them into accounting and system specifications.
Perform system testing from an accounting perspective to validate data integrity, financial reporting, and process effectiveness.
Act as a liaison for handling inventory adjustment exceptions, ensuring issues are identified, investigated, and resolved promptly.
Quickly identify and solve problems that arise during projects, escalating issues when necessary and implementing appropriate corrective actions.
Apply principles of accounting to analyze and prepare financial information, including financial statements, balance sheets, and supporting schedules.
Evaluate potential problems and technical issues within projects and develop practical, sustainable solutions.
Participate in project design meetings and propose process or system improvements when needed.
Prepare and maintain spreadsheets in Excel to support accounting analysis and reporting.
Streamline accounting processes by utilizing Excel to download, manipulate, and upload data.
Handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and adherence to deadlines.
Communicate effectively with stakeholders to provide updates on project status, accounting issues, and process improvements.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in accounting.
4-5 years of accounting-related experience.
CPA certification or active CPA candidacy.
Comprehensive understanding of GAAP, accounting procedures, accounting concepts, and internal control processes in accounts payable and general accounting.
Hands-on experience with financial statements, balance sheets, financial reporting, bank reconciliations, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close activities.
Intermediate to advanced computer skills to produce reports and spreadsheets.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including strong Excel skills for spreadsheet preparation and data analysis.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues and develop effective solutions.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Ability to act and operate independently with minimal daily direction while successfully accomplishing objectives.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
System implementation or project experience.
Public accounting experience.
Experience participating in or supporting accounting-related projects, including testing and process improvements.
Experience using Excel to streamline processes, including downloading, manipulating, and uploading data.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional business users to define requirements and support project execution.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $65.00/hr.
