Job Title: Construction Laborer - Fiber Optics (Entry-Level)
Job Description
This entry-level construction laborer role offers a hands-on opportunity to learn and grow in the fiber optics field. You will support the installation, splicing, and maintenance of fiber optic systems while working primarily outdoors in a variety of environments. The position suits candidates with a construction background who are dependable, adaptable, and eager to develop technical skills in telecommunications and fiber optics.
Responsibilities
Assist with the installation and maintenance of fiber optic systems in buried, underground, aerial, and building environments.
Support fiber optic splicing activities for various cable @types and sizes, including single-mode, multimode, stranded, and ribbon fiber.
Help perform daily testing, inspections, and maintenance on splicing and testing equipment to ensure proper operation and safety.
Conduct optical continuity and conformance testing under guidance to verify the integrity and performance of fiber optic networks.
Review and interpret maps, drawings, blueprints, and testing documents to understand project layouts and work requirements.
Assist in analyzing and troubleshooting basic technical issues related to fiber optic installations and equipment.
Participate in making splicing rearrangements on existing infrastructure as directed by senior technicians or supervisors.
Perform general construction and labor tasks such as cable pulling, assembly, wiring, and site preparation for underground and aerial fiber work.
Use power and hand tools safely and effectively for construction and fiber optic installation tasks.
Demonstrate consistent dependability by arriving on time, working long hours when required, and adapting to changing job conditions and locations.

Willingness to learn and develop new skills in fiber optics, telecommunications, and construction.
Comfort working long hours in physically demanding, hands-on roles.
Experience using power tools and hand tools safely in a construction or general labor setting.
Ability to work comfortably outdoors in varying weather and temperature conditions.
Basic construction or general labor experience, preferably in commercial or similar environments.
Capability to read and follow maps, drawings, blueprints, and technical documents with guidance.
Adaptability to work in different environments, including buried, underground, aerial, and building locations.
Comfort performing tasks such as cable pulling, wiring, and assembly in a construction setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Construction background in telecommunications, underground utilities, or fiber splicing.
Exposure to fiber optic installation, including low voltage work and outside plant (OSP) environments.
Familiarity with fiber optic concepts such as single-mode, multimode, stranded, and ribbon fiber.
Experience as a cable puller or in underground fiber projects.
Basic understanding of telecommunication systems and general optic principles.
Previous experience with general labor on commercial construction sites.

Work Environment

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $23.00/hr.
