Job Title: Construction Laborer
Job Description
The Construction Laborer operates heavy equipment and performs hands-on site work to support commercial construction and site development projects. This role focuses on excavation, grading, site preparation, material handling, and basic equipment maintenance while consistently following safety standards and project specifications.
Responsibilities
Operate heavy machinery such as dozers, excavators, and front-end loaders to move earth, debris, and construction materials safely and efficiently.
Perform excavation and grading by digging, leveling, and shaping land according to project plans and specifications.
Prepare construction sites by clearing land, removing obstacles, and ensuring proper groundwork before building activities begin.
Handle materials by loading, transporting, and distributing dirt, gravel, rock, and other aggregates around the job site.
Assist with general construction labor tasks, including site cleanup, debris removal, and organization of tools and materials.
Use power tools and hand tools as needed to support construction and site development activities.
Move equipment and materials around the site, ensuring safe operation and adherence to site traffic patterns.
Conduct daily equipment inspections to identify potential issues and ensure machinery is safe and ready for use.
Perform minor repairs and routine maintenance on equipment to keep machinery in good working condition.
Work both inside and outside of the equipment cab as needed, assisting with ground operations and supporting other crew members.
Follow all safety procedures and maintain a safety-first mindset on every job site.
Collaborate with supervisors and team members to complete tasks on schedule and meet project quality standards.
Adapt to working at various job sites within the region and adjust to changing weather and site conditions.
Essential Skills
Minimum of 2 years of construction labor experience.
2-3+ years of experience operating excavators, dozers, and front-end loaders.
Proficiency in grading and earthmoving operations on commercial construction and site development projects.
Experience operating heavy equipment such as dozers, excavators, and front-end loaders in a construction environment.
Ability to perform general labor tasks including cleaning up job sites and moving equipment and materials.
Comfort working both inside and outside the equipment cab as project needs require.
Ability to safely use power tools and basic construction tools.
Strong commitment to safety and adherence to site safety procedures.
Reliability and flexibility to work varying hours and at multiple job sites within the region.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
History in commercial construction and site development projects.
Hands-on experience with site preparation, excavation, and grading.
Ability to inspect equipment and identify basic maintenance needs.
Capacity to work effectively as part of a field crew in changing outdoor conditions.
Willingness to travel between multiple job sites within the metro area as needed.

Work Environment
You typically work 40-50 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with schedule adjustments based on weather conditions. You remain flexible to work some weekends when project demands require it. The role is field-based across multiple active construction sites, with approximately 15 job locations within the Richmond metro area and the furthest site about 45 minutes from Chester, VA. You operate heavy equipment such as dozers, excavators, and front-end loaders and perform physical labor outdoors in varying weather and ground conditions. The environment is fast-paced, safety-focused, and team-oriented, with frequent movement between different sites as projects progress.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
