Description We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join a finance team in New York. This contract opportunity has the potential to become permanent and is ideal for someone who can manage core accounting operations, maintain accurate financial records, and support timely reporting. The role will partner closely with leadership to deliver reliable financial insights, strengthen internal controls, and help keep day-to-day accounting activities running smoothly.

Responsibilities:

Provide day-to-day direction and oversight to an Accounting Clerk, helping ensure financial tasks are completed accurately and on schedule.

Lead monthly close activities by preparing entries, reviewing account activity, and confirming the general ledger is properly maintained.

Produce and evaluate monthly financial statements and supporting reports to verify completeness and accuracy.

Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including monitoring collections activity through Yardi.

Reconcile bank accounts and balance sheet accounts on a routine basis to identify and resolve discrepancies promptly.

Support audit-related activities by organizing documentation, answering requests, and assisting with close-out requirements.

Review billing activity to ensure invoices are created correctly and follow company policies and financial procedures.

Build Excel-based analyses and reporting tools that help management assess financial performance and make informed decisions.

Work with leadership to prepare financial reporting that aligns with compliance requirements and organizational objectives. Requirements - Demonstrated experience in a senior-level accounting role with responsibility for monthly close and financial reporting.

Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliation practices.

Hands-on experience performing bank reconciliations and resolving variances in a timely manner.

Familiarity with audit support processes and preparing documentation for internal or external review.

Experience managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and collection tracking.

Proficiency with Yardi for accounting or property-related financial operations.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to create detailed reports and financial analysis.
