Job Title: Construction Superintendent - Commercial Interior Construction
Job Description
This role supports field operations on commercial interior construction projects by assisting with the day-to-day execution of work under the direction of senior field leadership. The Superintendent I helps coordinate site activities, track progress, and ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project plans, schedules, and quality standards. The position offers the opportunity to build foundational leadership and construction management skills while contributing to a well-organized, safe, and collaborative jobsite environment across a variety of interior projects.
Responsibilities
Assist with daily field operations under the direction of the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent to support smooth project execution.
Support tracking of daily work activities, production progress, and manpower to maintain accurate field reporting.
Help maintain site organization, cleanliness, and basic safety standards to promote a safe and efficient jobsite.
Observe trade partner activities and promptly report progress, issues, or concerns to field leadership.
Assist in verifying that work is performed in accordance with drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
Participate in site walks to gain a deeper understanding of project execution and field conditions.
Document field conditions, issues, completed work, and daily site activities to support project records.
Support implementation of established field processes and procedures to ensure consistency and compliance.
Develop and maintain 3-week look-ahead schedules in collaboration with trade partners.
Partner with Project Managers to maintain detailed project schedules and monitor critical path activities and long-lead items.
Create and participate in pull planning and phase planning sessions to align stakeholders on sequencing and milestones.
Monitor schedule performance, identify deviations, and assist in implementing corrective actions when needed.
Hold trade partners accountable to project milestones and contractual commitments in coordination with field leadership.
Support coordination of deliveries, material staging, and site access to align with the project schedule and logistics plans.
Track progress of scheduled activities and communicate delays, conflicts, or field impacts to project leadership.
Assist in coordinating daily trade partner activities to support planned sequencing and workflow.
Help identify potential field risks and communicate mitigation needs to project leadership.
Maintain logs related to deliveries, manpower, schedule changes, and daily site activities.
Participate in coordination and planning meetings to support effective project execution and communication.
Support project execution from mobilization through closeout, including punch lists and turnover documentation.
Assist with communication and coordination with trade partners, vendors, and project team members.
Attend coordination and progress meetings and document key takeaways for distribution to stakeholders.
Help track and distribute project updates, RFIs, and field communications to ensure timely information flow.
Maintain organized project records throughout the lifecycle of the project, including closeout documentation.
Track trade partner work progress and report performance concerns or scope gaps to project leadership.
Support documentation for change orders and field directives, including field data collection and cost impacts.
Help monitor material usage and deliveries to support cost control and schedule adherence.
Support cost tracking through daily reports and organized records of field-related cost impacts.
Manage and support the quality control process to help ensure inspections are successful and work meets standards.
Perform basic field inspections under supervision to verify that installed work aligns with drawings and specifications.
Assist with coordination of third-party inspections and testing as required.
Maintain organized quality documentation and logs and support punch list tracking and closeout activities.
Promote attention to detail and quality in daily work and interactions with trade partners.
Follow all company safety policies and jobsite requirements and model a safety-first mindset.
Assist in conducting safety walks, identifying potential hazards, and supporting corrective actions.
Attend safety meetings and toolbox talks and support documentation of safety observations and incidents.
Assist with maintaining safety records and logs to support compliance and continuous improvement.
Demonstrate willingness to learn, take direction from field leadership, and apply feedback to improve performance.
Support team coordination and communication efforts to foster a collaborative and respectful jobsite environment.
Maintain a positive attitude and strong work ethic while supporting onboarding of new team members when applicable.

Support collection of project data, photos, and updates for internal use and marketing purposes.
Assist with documentation for proposals or marketing materials as needed.

Represent the company professionally and contribute to maintaining a positive image through daily actions on site.
Essential Skills
8+ years of experience in commercial interior construction; candidates with 5-8 years of strong commercial interior experience will also be considered.
3+ years of experience working on commercial interior projects in the Chicago market.
Demonstrated experience with commercial interior projects, including workplace, retail, restaurant, or similar interiors.
Proficiency with construction scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project or Outbuild.
Experience using Procore or similar construction management software for documentation and communication.
Strong understanding of field operations, including coordination of trade partners, logistics, and site activities.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and verify installed work against them.
Solid knowledge of basic safety practices and jobsite safety requirements, with a commitment to a safety-first mindset.
Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain organized records, logs, and documentation.
Effective communication skills to coordinate with trade partners, project teams, and vendors.
Proactive approach to learning and the ability to take direction and follow through on assigned tasks reliably.
Ability to support scheduling, logistics, and daily reporting in a fast-paced construction environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
OSHA 30 certification is preferred; if not currently held, the company will support obtaining it.
An associate or bachelor's degree in a relevant field is preferred.
Experience managing or supporting commercial interior projects in the $1M-$10M+ range.
Capability to represent the company professionally in front of clients, including participating in meetings and supporting pitches for work, especially at senior superintendent levels.
Experience with commercial interior sectors such as workplace, amenity, retail, hospitality, healthcare, lab and life sciences, or education is beneficial.
Demonstrated ability to build positive working relationships with trade partners and project stakeholders.
Track record of accountability, integrity, and perseverance in delivering projects the right way.
Work Environment
This is an on-site role based on commercial interior projects in downtown Chicago, primarily focused on workplace interiors, with additional exposure to restaurant and retail projects. Typical hours are Monday through Friday from approximately 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., supporting active jobsite operations. The work environment is field-based, involving regular site walks, coordination with trade partners, and interaction with project management and vendors. You will work with modern construction technologies and tools, including scheduling platforms such as Microsoft Project or Outbuild and project management software such as Procore. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $52.91 - $72.12/hr.
