Job Title: Maintenance Engineer
Job Description
This role is responsible for performing machine setup, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance on production equipment with a strong focus on safety, quality, and uptime. Working under the guidance of the Maintenance Manager and Leads, the maintenance engineer supports both warranty and non-warranty repairs, ensures equipment reliability, and contributes to continuous improvement across the facility.
Responsibilities
Conduct machine setup, troubleshooting, and repair on a variety of production equipment, including engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines.
Perform preventive maintenance by following diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, manufacturer instructions, and engineering specifications to ensure reliable operation of machinery and mechanical equipment.
Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical malfunctions by observing equipment in operation, listening for irregularities, and using precision measuring and testing instruments.
Identify sources of mechanical and electrical problems and determine appropriate corrective actions to restore equipment to proper working condition.
Remove defective parts by dismantling devices using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools, and inspect parts for wear, damage, and dimensional accuracy.
Determine changes in dimensional requirements by inspecting used parts and using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
Adjust and align functional parts of devices and control instruments using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges to meet operational specifications.
Control equipment downtime by advising production workers on routine preventive maintenance techniques and monitoring adherence to maintenance practices.
Fabricate or modify repair parts using machine shop tools, instrumentation, and equipment as needed to support maintenance activities.
Maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventory by checking stock levels, anticipating needs, placing and expediting orders, and verifying receipt of materials.
Use maintenance resources efficiently by selecting appropriate tools, equipment, and supplies to complete tasks in a cost-effective manner.
Provide mechanical maintenance information by responding to questions and requests from colleagues and other departments.
Prepare mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing maintenance data, issues, and trends.
Maintain and update technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, and building professional networks.
Document and communicate actions taken, irregularities observed, and ongoing needs to ensure continuity among work teams and across shifts.
Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following established procedures, rules, and regulations and encouraging safe work practices.
Contribute to team goals by taking on related tasks as needed and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the maintenance department.
Essential Skills
Demonstrated experience performing troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on industrial machinery and production equipment.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.
Hands-on experience working with motors, including 480V motors, and related electrical wiring in an industrial environment.
Proficiency in mechanical maintenance, including disassembly, repair, and reassembly of mechanical components.
Working knowledge of pneumatics and pneumatic tools used in industrial and manufacturing settings.
Experience using precision measuring instruments such as rules, calipers, and micrometers to verify dimensions and tolerances.
Ability to safely operate hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools for maintenance and repair activities.
Capability to fabricate or modify repair parts using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
Skill in reading and working with electrical schematics and industrial control systems.
Strong troubleshooting skills for identifying the root cause of mechanical and electrical issues and implementing effective solutions.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Approximately 5 years of related maintenance or industrial experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid driver's license.
Ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
Strong communication skills to document work performed and coordinate with production and maintenance teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Associate's degree in a related technical field is preferred.
Experience in truss manufacturing or similar industrial environments is beneficial.
Background as a maintenance technician in industrial or manufacturing settings.
Familiarity with conveyor systems and production machinery used in high-volume operations.
Comfort working with 480V electrical systems and industrial motors.
Ability to interpret and apply manufacturer instructions and engineering specifications.
Willingness to attend educational workshops and stay current with technical publications and industry best practices.
Strong organizational skills for maintaining inventory of equipment, parts, and supplies.
Interest in developing into leadership roles, including potential promotion to supervisor.

Work Environment
The role is based in a well-lit, non-climate-controlled industrial facility, typical of a manufacturing or production environment. The environment requires consistent attention to safety procedures, housekeeping standards, and equipment care. Work may involve standing for extended periods, moving between different areas of the facility, and adapting to seasonal temperature changes within the plant.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $33.00/hr.
