Summary This position serves as the Mechanical Shop Supervisor covering the following trades: Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration (HVACR), Machining, Pipefitting, Plumbing and Building Automation Systems (BAS). This shop falls under the general supervision of the Supervisor for Maintenance, Operations, Repair and Readiness (MORR) Section at the Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Responsibilities The incumbent is responsible for planning, coordinating, testing, adjusting, balancing and directing all work performed by the following trades: HVACR, Machining, Pipefitting, Plumbing, Insulating and BAS. Major duties include, but are not limited to: Responsible for full administrative accountability for matters such as attendance, leave, and discipline for subordinate positions. Plan work assignments based on general work schedules, methods and policies by higher-level supervisors. Responsible for responding to and making work assignments to provide first response to trouble calls and/or service calls in a hospital setting. Adjusts work assignments for multiple work groups as needed to meet changing priorities at the Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Affairs Medical Center, its associated CBOCs and all other locations under its jurisdiction. Identifies and determines subordinate training priorities, conducts and administers training programs, develops and improves training guidance. Ensure that all The Joint Commission, NFPA, OSHA, EPA, VA standards, medical center directives, and other applicable guidelines are followed. Conducts inspections to assure quality control of work performed by staff. Assigns work, creates work schedules, sets cost limitations, furnishes detailed supervision and instructions, observes progression of work (inclusive of adherence to completion and cost schedules), and coordinates activities with other projects currently underway. Plan daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, annually, bi-annually, tri-annually, etc. preventative maintenance schedules for subordinates including the establishment of priorities and deadlines based on information from his/her supervisor to accomplish the tasks according to schedule. Schedule work to interfere as little as possible with medical center operations. This will require scheduling equipment shutdowns weeks or months in advance. Creates corrective maintenance tickets for items requiring more work to correct an issue then can be performed in a shift, or if additional resources are required or if the work is beyond the skillset of worker performing the work. Responsible for oversight of all contracts for the HVACR, Machining, Pipefitting, Plumbing and BAS including development of new contracts and administration of existing contracts. Incumbent initiates request for purchase for repairs to be completed by outside vendors.
