The Military Division - Massachusetts National Guard is seeking a professional for the role of Installation Security Officer at Joint Base Cape Cod. The selected candidate for this role will be responsible for preforming a full range of armed security patrol duties. This integral role will ensure that individuals requesting access to the installation have the proper identification and credentials for entry and ensures the safety needs of the Military Division are met. The ideal candidate will have experience in security with a clear understanding of security/ law enforcement officer procedures, with the ability to perform independently. The open positions will likely cover a swing shift (1:30 PM - 9:30 PM) or a midnight shift (9:30 PM - 5:30 AM) possibly including one or both weekend days. Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all-inclusive) Validates IDs for Installation Access. Dispatches Security Forces units to scenes of incidents. Responds to alarms and conduct random checks of the area. Maintains records and prepares reports the activities over the course of the shift. Transmits messages to officers on patrol. Detects threats to restricted areas, by detaining and apprehending violators. Participates in training exercises to increase proficiency and keep skills and knowledge current. Issues temporary passes to visitors. Conducts random vehicle searches. ABOUT OUR AGENCY The Massachusetts Guard has a unique dual mission, with both federal and state responsibilities. During peacetime, Guard forces are commanded by the Governor through the State Adjutant General. The Governor can call the Guard into action during local or state-wide emergencies, such as storms, floods, blizzards, and civil disturbances. In addition, the President of the United States can activate the Massachusetts National Guard to participate in federal missions. The Massachusetts National Guard's mission is to be trained and ready to provide units that can mobilize for any contingency, at home or abroad. To accomplish this, we must sustain a ready, reliable, and robust joint military team of Army, Air Force and civilians that will honor our responsibilities to nation and community. The National Guard is one branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. The Massachusetts National Guard consists of both the Massachusetts Army National Guard and the Massachusetts Air National Guard. We are composed of full-time and part-time Soldiers and Airmen, as well as civilians, who together serve the Commonwealth and country. Desired Essential Skills and Qualifications · Previous experience as armed security · Knowledge of the rights of detained individuals and rules regarding appropriate use of force. · Knowledge of tactics and procedures necessary for the preparation and response to catastrophic events, enemy attacks, and other related threats to instillations. · Knowledge of methods and procedures used to enforce specialized personnel access controls to prevent unauthorized access. · Must pass the initial preemployment medical exam. · Must pass a preemployment physical agility test. · Must be willing to obtain initial and annual firearms qualification to carry weapons required for armed security. · Must be able to work all shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays. · Must have the ability to obtain a Secret Clearance within your probationary period. _Competencies_ · Dependability- Job requires being reliable, responsible, and dependable in fulfilling day-to-day duties. · Self-Control- Job requires maintaining composure, keeping emotions in check, controlling anger, and avoiding aggressive behavior, even in very difficult situations. · Attention to Detail- Job requires being careful about detail and thorough in completing tasks. · Cooperation- Job requires being pleasant with others on the job and displaying a good natured, cooperative attitude. · Concern for Others- This job requires being sensitive to others' needs and feelings and being understanding and helpful on the job. Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and must pass an initial pre-employment screening for all armed security personnel. Applicants must also pass an initial pre-employment medical examination and a physical agility certification. Incumbents are required to have a current and valid motor vehicle driver's license at a class level specific to assignment. Based on assignment, incumbents may need to have a current and valid military motor vehicle driver's license.
