Summary The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Alaska is a vibrant and energetic office in the most majestic state in the country. The USAO has offices in Anchorage, Fairbanks and Juneau. There are currently 22 Assistant United States Attorneys who prosecute federal crimes and defend and pursue the interests of the United States in civil cases. This employment opportunity is in the Civil Division of our Anchorage office. Responsibilities The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Alaska is seeking applications from experienced attorneys who have superb research and writing skills as well as civil litigation experience to fill one Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) vacancy in the Civil Division. Additional vacancies may be filled using this announcement. AUSAs in the Civil Division are responsible for representing the federal government, its agencies and employees in civil litigation in the District. Two primary areas of practice are tort cases, including medical malpractice and a variety of personal injury cases, and Title VII cases alleging discrimination in hiring and employment practices by agencies of the United States. Other areas of practice include civil rights, immigration, bankruptcy, debts owed the United States or its agencies, judicial review of administrative findings, and injunctive proceedings. AUSAs in the Civil Division are active at both the trial and appellate levels, taking depositions, preparing and answering interrogatories, negotiating settlements, engaging in motion practice, trying cases, and writing and arguing appeals. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Required Qualifications: Applicants must have excellent academic credentials, a J.D. degree, an active membership in good standing of the bar of any jurisdiction, minimum one (1) year post-J.D. experience, superior analytical abilities and oral communications skills, excellent research and writing skills, good judgment and strong character. Mentoring and training will be provided. United States citizenship is required. You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement. Degree Additional Information Salary Information: Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $80,000 to $197,100 which includes 32.36% locality pay. In addition there is a non-taxable cost of living allowance where authorized.
