Summary This position is aligned under the Engineering Service Line at the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital, in Hines, Illinois. This position requires the incumbent to plan and coordinate activities of other individuals, commercial vendors and to serve as liaison with same. Major duties include, but may not be limited to the following: The Interior Designer plans, specifies, writes procurement packages, supervises installation, and acts as the contracting officer's representative for furniture procurements within the facility Provides plans, consultation, advice, specifications, and designs for virtually all spaces involved in new construction and/or renovation; reviews Plans and implements a comprehensive Interior Design Program which includes providing complete, from concept to installation, interior design services for the organization The Interior Designer provides technical expertise to coworkers and contractors and routinely coordinates with engineers, architects, and other designers to ensure compliance with VA regulations Acts as Contracting Officer's Representative for all furnishings, window treatments, patient cubicle curtains, wall coverings, floor coverings, wall art, lighting, ceiling treatments, casework Develops the interior signage and wayfinding plan for the facility to comply with "VA Signage Guide" on the Technical Information Library (TIL) Manages an interior design file system that includes drawings, specifications, budgets, project information, government contracts, requests for interior design services, and regulations Responds to requests, complaints, etc. related to interior design and furniture moves Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE-GS9: Applicants must possess At least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of an Interior Designer. Specialized experience is experience that required performance of work involving the design and alteration of interior spaces to meet functional and aesthetic requirements such as: (1) assisting with space planning and interior design projects; (2) researching and resolving issues related to interior environments and workspace functionality; (3) preparing drawings, layouts, specifications, or design documents for interior spaces; (4) applying knowledge of furnishings, materials, building systems, and building codes in support of interior design projects; and (5) coordinating with customers, contractors, or project team members regarding interior space requirements and renovation activities. Specialized experience is experience that required performance of professional interior design work involving the planning, design, and alteration of interior spaces to meet functional and aesthetic requirements such as: (1) independently analyzing and resolving interior design and space utilization issues; (2) performing design analysis, space planning, and aesthetic development using knowledge of interior construction, building systems, building codes, furnishings, and materials; (3) preparing and reviewing drawings, specifications, and other design-related documents; (4) coordinating interior design projects with mechanical, electrical, and structural disciplines; and (5) managing or supporting renovation and construction projects through activities such as evaluating design proposals, reviewing construction documents, participating in site visits, conducting space assessments, or developing space management standards.
