Job Title: Production Machinist - Surface Grinder Operator
Job Description
This role focuses on setting up and operating a surface grinder and performing light mechanical assembly to support production. You will handle a variety of machining tasks, adjust machine settings for optimal performance, and ensure all parts meet precise specifications through careful inspection and deburring.
Responsibilities
Set up and operate a surface grinder to produce parts to specified tolerances.
Perform light mechanical assembly tasks to support production requirements.
Carry out additional machining duties as required to meet workflow and production schedules.
Adjust machine feed and speed to optimize surface finish, accuracy, and throughput.
Deburr parts to remove sharp edges and ensure a clean, finished product.
Change tooling as needed to accommodate different jobs and maintain production quality.
Inspect parts using precision measuring instruments to verify compliance with engineering drawings and specifications.
Read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings to understand part requirements and machining operations.
Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow standard safety procedures.
Work collaboratively with team members and communicate effectively about job status, issues, and improvements.
Essential Skills
High school diploma or equivalent education.
Minimum of 3 years of experience as a machinist or in a similar machining role.
Proven ability to set up and operate a surface grinder or comparable precision grinding equipment.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings accurately.
Proficiency with precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
Effective communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage assigned tasks efficiently.
Possession of personal machinist tools suitable for daily machining and grinding tasks.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with deburring techniques and finishing processes.
Light mechanical assembly within a manufacturing environment.
Familiarity with adjusting machine feeds and speeds for different materials and operations.
Comfort working with a variety of machining equipment beyond surface grinders.
Demonstrated problem-solving skills in identifying and correcting machining issues.

Work Environment

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
