JOB REQUIREMENTS: Electrical Inspector - Full Time The City of West Bend is accepting applications for a full-time Electrical Inspector and all those with Electrical Inspection experience are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will perform inspections and enforcement duties: performing U.D.C. inspections for electric, carpentry, masonry, heating, air conditioning, insulation, etc.; performing miscellaneous inspections for roofing, sheds, decks, etc.; performing commercial inspections and reviewing plans for construction and plumbing projects; determining compliance with appropriate code requirements; issuing orders to correct code violations; issuing building permits; calculating permit fees; completing required reports. Additionally, this candidate will provide technical information and assistance in the department: advising, informing, and answering code-related questions of contractors, developers, and the general public over the telephone and at the service counter; reviewing plans for construction projects; issuing building permits; and attending meetings, seminars and continuing education programs and assisting the Superintendent of Building Inspection with the presentation of code related seminars. Other Requirements A Valid Wisconsin driver\'s license required. Ability to operate a variety of equipment and tools such as an automobile, two-way radio, electric meter, tape measure, engineering rule, camera, copying machine, pressure gauges, and telephone. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Ability to perform on-site inspections and be able to climb, bend and reach. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide; performs calculations using decimals, percentages, and algebraic equations; utilize principles of trigonometry. This is a high visibility position requiring a degree of public interaction. Appearance and social adaptability skills required. Ability to solve or propose solutions to problems presented to the office. Ability to comprehend and interpret a variety of documents such as building plans, zoning ordinances, property surveys, code updates, electric load calculations, heat calculations, water calculations, and reports such as soil engineering reports, UL reports, and board meeting reports. Ability to prepare a variety of documents such as building permits, plans, and files, inspection reports, electrical exams, revenue sheets and letters using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style. Ability to use and interpret the National Electric Code, Uniform Dwelling Code, City Zoning Ordinance, City Plumbing/Electrical Code, zoning and tax key maps, building files, and State codes. Ability to communicate effectively with contractors, developers, State agencies, City personnel, and the general public to convey or exchange information including giving directions to subordinates and receiving instructions from supervisors. Work is performed in an office environment and outdoors in varying weather conditions with hazards associated with construction sites. A working knowledge of construction site safety procedures & safety equipment is essential. The City of West Bend offers a comprehensive fringe benefit package, including health and life insurance.
