Job Title: On-Site Construction Project Manager
Job Description
This role leads the on-site delivery of medium-sized construction projects from start to finish, with full accountability for execution, completion, and financial performance. The On-Site Construction Project Manager provides strong jobsite leadership, drives safety, quality, and schedule performance, and ensures strict contract compliance. This position oversees project controls, change management, and forecasting while building and mentoring high-performing teams and maintaining strong relationships with clients, partners, and trade contractors.
Responsibilities
Serve as the on-site Project Manager responsible for the overall execution, completion, and financial performance of medium-sized construction projects.
Provide clear jobsite leadership and actively support the development and implementation of the project safety plan in partnership with corporate safety teams.
Develop, implement, and manage project controls, procedures, and risk mitigation strategies to ensure contract compliance and reduce project risk.
Establish, oversee, and manage change management processes, including change orders, and lead project financial forecasting to meet contractual and financial requirements.
Create, implement, and execute project-specific quality plans and closeout plans that align with contract documents and project specifications.
Lead, motivate, and manage project teams including superintendents, engineers, and project administration staff to achieve project goals.
Train, coach, and mentor direct reports on company processes, procedures, and daily operational responsibilities to support their professional development.
Support the subcontracting strategy by developing clear scopes of work and ensuring integrity and competitiveness throughout the buyout process.
Implement and enforce contract requirements, including drafting and managing contracts, agreements, and purchase orders for trade partners and vendors.
Coordinate insurance and bonding enrollment for the project and ensure trade contractor compliance with all requirements.
Provide planning support, including estimating select bid packages and contributing to the development of Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) proposals.
Perform constructability reviews and coordination reviews throughout the project lifecycle to identify and resolve issues before they impact the field.
Develop and manage Critical Path Method (CPM) project schedules and prepare accurate monthly schedule updates for stakeholders.
Collaborate closely with business development teams to support client relationships, pursuits, and overall market positioning.
Build, maintain, and strengthen relationships with clients, partners, trade contractors, and industry contacts to support repeat business and a strong market presence.
Manage the workload, performance, and professional development of direct reports in alignment with company standards and expectations.
Foster an inclusive, positive work environment on the jobsite that promotes engagement, accountability, and collaboration.
Communicate company and departmental strategies effectively to project teams to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
Apply a strong understanding of self-perform construction to plan, run, and estimate self-perform work where applicable.
Use deep knowledge of labor productivity to plan work realistically and support trades in successfully building the project in the field.
Work closely with the trades and union representatives, leveraging hands-on understanding of union job sites and craft distinctions to maintain productive, respectful working relationships.
Essential Skills
5-10 years of relevant construction project management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong understanding of construction project management principles and jobsite operations, particularly in commercial construction.
Proven ability to manage project financials, including budgeting, forecasting, and change management processes.
Experience developing and managing CPM schedules and using project controls to track and drive performance.
Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to build, motivate, and develop high-performing project teams.
Strong emotional intelligence with the ability to manage relationships and navigate complex team dynamics on active jobsites.
Strategic mindset with the ability to assess risks, identify opportunities, and understand long-term project impacts.
Ability to delegate effectively, set clear priorities, and hold teams accountable for results and commitments.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with clients, trade partners, and internal teams.
Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with operations, safety, and business development teams.
Proficiency with industry-standard construction software and Microsoft Office tools.
Self-perform experience, including proven experience running and estimating self-perform work with a self-performing general contractor or subcontractor.
Strong understanding of labor production and what it takes for trades to successfully execute work in the field.
Hands-on experience working with the trades and solid understanding of union job sites and distinctions between various craft roles.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred.
Experience in commercial construction environments, including projects such as retail, pharmaceutical, high-rise, or similar complex facilities.
Experience supporting or participating in business development activities and client relationship management.
Comfort working on multiple projects or phases concurrently and adapting to changing priorities.
Ability to contribute to GMP development and estimate select bid packages as part of preconstruction and planning efforts.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $115000.00 - $160000.00/yr.
