Job Description
The Industrial Engineer / Designer updates and creates detailed CAD layouts of manufacturing facilities, ensuring that documented floor plans accurately reflect the equipment, workstations, utilities, and flow on the production floor. The role focuses primarily on revising existing layouts and standardizing design elements, with additional responsibility for developing new layouts from scratch as needed. This position works closely with the manufacturing environment, spending time on the production floor to validate current conditions, gather information, and support continuous improvement of facility and process layouts.
Responsibilities
Update existing CAD models and layouts of manufacturing facilities to accurately reflect current equipment, work benches, utilities, and material flow on the production floor.
Compare documented layouts with actual conditions on the manufacturing floor and correct discrepancies in the CAD drawings.
Use AutoCAD and DraftSight to modify, refine, and maintain detailed floor, facility, and equipment layouts.
Create new facility and floor layouts from scratch for manufacturing areas, including equipment placement, workstations, and utilities, as required.
Spend time on the manufacturing floor to validate layout information, take measurements, observe processes, and confirm the location of equipment and utilities.
Ask targeted questions of production and engineering personnel to clarify layout details and ensure accurate documentation.
Clean up and organize CAD drawing layers to improve clarity, consistency, and ease of use across all layout files.
Standardize and maintain consistent use of blocks, symbols, and drawing conventions throughout all facility layout files.
Support manufacturing and industrial engineering efforts by providing accurate, up-to-date layout drawings for process and facility improvements.
Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to understand layout requirements and incorporate changes into the design.
Document revisions and maintain version control of layout drawings to ensure traceability of changes.
Contribute industrial or manufacturing engineering insight to optimize workflow, space utilization, and equipment placement where applicable.

Strong capability in layout design, including facility layout, floor layout, and manufacturing layout.
Experience working in an industrial or manufacturing environment and understanding of manufacturing processes.
Ability to perform design drafting with attention to detail and accuracy.
Comfort working on the manufacturing floor to validate layouts, gather data, and interact with operations personnel.
Ability to clean up and organize CAD layers and maintain consistent use of blocks and symbols.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in industrial or manufacturing engineering that can support broader manufacturing engineering needs.
Experience with facility design and optimization of equipment and workflow arrangements.
Familiarity with manufacturing process flows and how they influence facility and floor layouts.
Strong problem-solving skills to reconcile differences between documented layouts and actual conditions.
Effective communication skills to ask clarifying questions and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Attention to detail and a structured approach to maintaining drawing standards and documentation.
Work Environment
The role is based in an industrial manufacturing environment and involves a combination of office-based CAD work and time spent on the production floor. The Industrial Engineer / Designer works extensively with AutoCAD and DraftSight on computer workstations to update and create facility and floor layouts. Regular visits to the manufacturing floor are required to observe equipment and processes, verify dimensions, and confirm the placement of work benches, utilities, and other assets. The environment includes typical manufacturing conditions, such as active machinery, production lines, and material handling activities.
