Collins Aerospace has an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer to join us as a Principal Mechanical Product Qualification and Test Engineer to provide support to the Landing Systems Engineering organization. In this role, you will lead and achieve objectives in support of New Product Introduction projects involving production products/customers and the In-Service team. This role is responsible for defining qualification test strategies, leading test execution, ensuring regulatory and customer compliance, and driving design improvements through rigorous analysis and data-driven recommendations.
You will be part of a world-class aerospace team operating at the forefront of innovation and safety, where your expertise will directly contribute to the success of cutting-edge aircraft systems. Additionally, this position includes mentoring junior engineers, helping establish best practices, and driving strategic initiatives that align with organizational goals, offering opportunities for leadership and high-impact contributions.
This position will sit at our Aguadilla, PR location. You must be residing in Puerto Rico at the time of starting employment. Relocation is not offered.
This role is categorized as hybrid , with 3 days onsite and 2 days remote following the schedule assigned by the Manager.
What YOU will do:
Develop, maintain, and submit comprehensive qualification documentation, including test plans, procedures, and reports, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with program requirements, engineering standards, and customer specifications.
Ensure engineering activities comply with global trade regulations, including export controls and proper handling of controlled technical data.
Manage requirements throughout the product lifecycle by leading verification and validation planning and execution.
Oversee test equipment selection, setup, instrumentation, and calibration to ensure full compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and internal processes.
Review test results, perform detailed data analysis, and lead cross-functional failure investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions or design enhancements.
Manage customer notification processes for drawing, process, and product changes (e.g., Airbus - EDES, Boeing - SCN).
Lead end-to-end engineering hardware procurement activities, leveraging Non-Product Purchase Requisitions (NPPR) through SRM to ensure timely and compliant acquisition of development and qualification hardware.
Manage and influence external suppliers, driving schedule adherence, risk mitigation, and earned value performance to support program and business objectives.
Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance on best practices in product qualification and test methodologies, fostering skill development and technical growth within the team.
Lead strategic initiatives that align with organizational goals, driving continuous improvements and setting best practices for mechanical qualification and testing.Support Change Management (CR/CO) process actions.
Support customer reviews, audits, and technical discussions as the subject matter expert for mechanical qualification and testing.
Track, mitigate, and resolve issues, risks, and blockers efficiently.
Support the team with any ad-hoc data-related tasks

Qualifications you must have:
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience.
Demonstrated professional experience communicating in English (verbal and written).

Qualifications We Prefer:
Foundational knowledge of electrical systems or components to support integration with mechanical systems and ensure compatibility during qualification and testing.
Strong knowledge of DO 160, MIL STD, and similar qualification standards for both electronic and mechanical systems.
General knowledge of Project and Supply Chain Management.
Experience in aerospace, defense, or related industry
Experience or knowledge in analyzing and testing electromechanical systems, including basic understanding of wiring, circuitry, or electrical integration with mechanical components.
Experience with project management software (e.g., MS Project, Jira).
Familiarity with Agile or Lean methodologies.
Certification in project management or process improvement (e.g., PMP, Six Sigma).
Hands-on experience with specific mechanical testing tools or equipment.
Strong understanding of thermal, fatigue, and vibration testing principles.
Experience/knowledge in SAP, TEAMCENTER, PLM, Configuration Management/Data Strong leadership and team management skills.
Experience with engineering change and manufacturing processes.
Expertise in industry best practices to drive and advocate for continuous process improvement.
Proficiency with instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and test automation tools.
