JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Activity Assistant
Department: Activities
Supervisor: Activities Director/Director of Nursing
POSITION SUMMARY
The Activity Assistant assists with planning, organizing, and
implementing recreational,
social, and therapeutic activities for residents in the Long Term Care
Unit. This position
promotes resident engagement, emotional well-being, and quality of life
while
maintaining a safe, respectful, and positive environment.
RESPONSIBILTIES
Assist with the planning, preparation, and implementation of daily
activities, special
events, and community outings.
Encourage resident participation in individual and group activities.
Provide one-on-one visits and social interaction with residents.
Assist residents with games, crafts, puzzles, exercise programs, and
other recreational
activities.
Assist with decorating resident areas, bulletin boards, and seasonal
displays.
Help maintain the monthly activity calendar and activity documentation.
Observe residents for changes in mood, behavior, or physical condition
and report
concerns to nursing staff or the Activities Director.
Assist with transportation and escorting residents to activities within
and outside the
facility as needed.
Assist with feeding residents when appropriate and directed.
Support special events including holiday celebrations, National Nursing
Home Week,
and community programs.
Maintain resident confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and facility
policies.
Follow all facility safety procedures, including fire and disaster
plans.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe activity environment.
Promote positive relationships with residents, families, visitors,
volunteers, and staff.
Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings, weekends,
or special
events.
Perform other duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position works primarily in a healthcare and long-term care
environment with
frequent interaction with residents, patients, families, visitors,
volunteers, and staff.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift during activities and
events.
Ability to assist residents safely during activities and outings.
Ability to push wheelchairs and transport activity equipment as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Licenses, Certifications or Registrations
Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification in Kansas preferred or required
per facility
policy.
CPR certification preferred.
Special Knowledge or Skills
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively with elderly residents and individuals with
varying physical
or cognitive needs.
Prior Experience
Previous experience in long-term care, activities, healthcare, or
customer service
preferred.
