This role focuses on supporting capital projects and process improvements across manufacturing operations, with a strong emphasis on electrical systems, industrial controls, and automation. The Electrical Project Engineer takes hands-on ownership of projects from concept through commissioning, working closely with cross-functional teams to enhance equipment reliability, modernize automation, and improve safety, efficiency, and product quality. Responsibilities
Support capital equipment and facility projects from initial concept through detailed design, installation, commissioning, and final closeout.
Coordinate installation activities, including scheduling, contractor oversight, and integration with existing systems and infrastructure.
Lead or support startup and commissioning efforts to ensure equipment and systems operate safely, reliably, and according to specifications.
Partner closely with Maintenance, Production, and Environmental Health and Safety teams to improve equipment reliability and support safe, efficient operation.
Assist with troubleshooting of PLCs, HMIs, and industrial control systems to quickly diagnose and resolve issues that impact production.
Support automation upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance process performance, reduce downtime, and improve product quality.
Manage project schedules and budgets, tracking progress, identifying risks, and implementing corrective actions to keep projects on time and within scope.
Coordinate and oversee contractor activities, ensuring work meets technical requirements, safety standards, and quality expectations.
Provide technical support for equipment installations, startups, and commissioning of capital and improvement projects.
Review and interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and basic P&IDs to support design, troubleshooting, and project execution.
Contribute to the modernization of automation platforms, including PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and industrial networks.
Travel occasionally to other facilities to support project implementation, troubleshooting, and standardization efforts.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
At least 2 years of experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
Hands-on exposure to PLCs, with Rockwell platforms preferred.
Experience working with HMIs in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
Knowledge of industrial controls and automation systems, including control panels and field devices.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics for troubleshooting and design review.
Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams and basic P&IDs.
Familiarity with low-voltage power systems and power distribution in industrial environments.
Experience supporting equipment installations, startups, or commissioning activities.
Exposure to capital or improvement projects within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical, control, and automation systems.
Effective communication skills to collaborate with maintenance, production, and other stakeholders.
Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects, schedules, and priorities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with Rockwell Automation and Allen-Bradley platforms, including ControlLogix controllers.
Exposure to PLC programming using tools such as Studio 5000.
Experience with HMI development and configuration, including FactoryTalk or similar platforms.
Familiarity with industrial networks used in automation environments.
Experience with variable frequency drives (VFDs) and motor control systems.
Knowledge of industrial control systems and automation architectures.
Exposure to capital project execution, including planning, budgeting, and coordination of commissioning activities.
Interest in growing technically and professionally within a manufacturing-focused engineering role.
Motivation to take ownership of projects and contribute to high-impact capital and process improvement initiatives.
Work Environment
The role is based in a manufacturing environment where teams lead capital projects, modernize automation, and drive process improvements that directly influence safety, efficiency, and product quality. You will work closely with maintenance, production, and EH&S personnel on the plant floor and in technical spaces, interacting regularly with industrial equipment, electrical systems, and automation platforms such as Rockwell PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and industrial networks. The position involves managing multiple projects concurrently, coordinating with contractors, and occasionally traveling to other facilities to support project implementation and standardization. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
