Job Description
Turner & Townsend are looking for an experienced Associate Director - Cost Manager and/or Quantity Surveyor to lead cost management services on large-scale, complex construction programs. This role will support a significant, multi-phase campus expansion involving advanced manufacturing facilities, large administrative buildings, and extensive site infrastructure works.
The successful candidate will play a key leadership role in delivering cost management services across a major, long-term development program characterized by substantial capital investment, phased construction, and high levels of stakeholder coordination.
To be successful in this role, you must have strong communication skills and be comfortable operating in a client-facing environment. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, driven, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team. In this position, you will provide leadership and direction while embedding and promoting the purpose, values, and vision of Turner & Townsend.
Responsibilities
Demonstrate strong leadership skills and experience leading cost management teams, ensuring delivery against all accountabilities.
Take a lead role in interfacing with the client, stakeholders, and other consultants at all project stages.
Maintain excellent communication with clients and project teams throughout all phases of large-scale construction programs.
Perform quantity surveying, cost control, and change management activities across the full project lifecycle.
Communicate effectively and professionally with general contractors, owner's representatives, and external stakeholders, ensuring seamless coordination within the overall construction delivery process.
Coordinate and support the strategic and operational delivery of Cost Management and Project Controls services across complex, multi-package developments.
Act as the primary point of contact for reporting on the overall commercial status of projects.
Drive Turner & Townsend best practices at all stages of major capital projects.
Identify opportunities to improve cost management procedures, processes, templates, and tools.
Undertake staff performance reviews and provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to team members.
Set clear strategy and direction for the team, identifying and developing high-performing talent.
Foster a high-performance culture focused on collaboration, excellence, and continuous improvement.
Ensure excellence in leadership and service delivery in line with project and company expectations.
Manage financial performance, including fee forecasts, resource planning, and margin tracking using internal systems.
Develop and implement priority plans, including risk mitigation strategies and performance measurement through KPIs and management controls.
Implement and maintain the use of internal Business Management Systems and delivery methodologies to ensure consistency and best practice.
Support internal and external audit processes as required.
Develop a strong understanding of the local market, acting as a brand ambassador and contributing to business development efforts.
Advise clients on contracting and procurement strategies across a variety of delivery models and large-scale programs.
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and cross-functional teams.
Participate in leadership meetings and prepare and deliver presentations to senior stakeholders.
Provide regular updates on project status, team performance, and key initiatives, proposing solutions where needed.
Identify and act on cross-selling and business development opportunities.
Support proposal development and responses to RFPs.
Ensure knowledge capture and continuous improvement through lessons learned and internal knowledge sharing.
Attend relevant industry events and networking opportunities.
Act as a role model in promoting a one-business culture that balances the needs of people, clients, stakeholders, and the wider community.
SOX control responsibilities may be part of this role, which are to be adhered to where applicable.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in construction management, cost management, quantity surveying, engineering, or a related field.
Graduate degree in quantity surveying, cost management, construction management, or engineering is preferred.
Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in a cost management role within the construction industry.
Experience working on large-scale, complex construction programs (e.g., manufacturing, infrastructure, or major campus developments) is strongly preferred.
Construction consultancy experience is highly preferred.
Subject matter expertise in Quantity Surveying, with RICS certification or equivalent accreditation preferred.
Demonstrated excellence in presentation, verbal, written, organizational, and communication skills.
