This onsite Construction Project Engineer role focuses on quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) for industrial and construction projects in Charlotte, NC. The engineer applies engineering theory and principles to optimize industrial layouts, manufacturing production, and construction processes, while ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and reliability standards. The role involves extensive interpretation of engineering drawings and blueprints, data analysis, and the preparation of technical documentation to support efficient, compliant, and safe operations.
Responsibilities
Apply engineering theory and principles to address problems related to industrial layout, manufacturing production, and construction processes.
Study time, motion, methods, and speed involved in maintenance, production, and other operations to establish standard production rates and improve efficiency.
Interpret engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, and formulas, and collaborate with leadership and engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards.
Review worker logs, product processing sheets, and specification sheets to verify that records comply with established quality assurance specifications.
Assist in planning work assignments based on worker performance, machine capacity, production schedules, and anticipated delays to optimize resource utilization.
Prepare charts, graphs, and diagrams to illustrate workflow, routing, floor layouts, material handling, and machine utilization for use in planning and continuous improvement.
Observe workers using equipment to verify that equipment is operated and maintained in accordance with quality assurance standards and safety requirements.
Observe workers operating equipment or performing tasks, using timing devices to determine time requirements and fatigue rates for process and staffing optimization.
Evaluate operational and quality data, identify deviations from existing standards, and write clear, detailed reports to document findings and recommendations.
Utilize computer applications and engineering software, including Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Bluebeam, and Primavera P6 (if experienced), to support project planning, documentation, and analysis.
Support project management activities related to construction, including coordination with cross-functional teams and alignment with project schedules and objectives.
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance productivity, quality, and safety within the construction and production environment.
Essential Skills

Effective verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with management, engineering staff, and field personnel and to prepare clear technical documentation.
Ability to make sketches, engineering drawings, and perform common engineering computations.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
Previous experience with computer applications and software related to the engineering field, such as Computer Aided Design (CAD).
Demonstrated ability to work as a team player and maintain strong attention to detail.
Bachelor's degree in engineering.
10+ years of experience in engineering, project management, or construction-related roles.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in project management within construction or industrial environments.
Experience using Bluebeam for reviewing and marking up drawings and documents.
Experience with Primavera P6 (P6) scheduling software is highly beneficial for planning and managing project timelines.
Background in QA/QC functions, including establishing and maintaining quality and reliability standards.
Experience preparing charts, graphs, and diagrams to support process analysis and reporting.
Familiarity with time-and-motion studies and methods to improve operational efficiency.
Work Environment
This is a fully onsite role based in Charlotte, NC, with a standard schedule of approximately 40 hours per week, typically around 10 hours per day. The position operates in an industrial and construction environment that combines office-based analytical work with field-based observations and inspections. The engineer uses a range of equipment and technology, including a monitor, keyboard, headset, mouse, CAD tools, Bluebeam, and potentially Primavera P6, to support project engineering and QA/QC activities. The role requires consistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including a Class 2 safety helmet, Class 2 or higher safety vest, cut and impact resistant gloves, ANSI Z87.1 or higher safety glasses or visor, and composite toe work boots made of leather or leather alternative that extend at least 4 inches above the ankle (no low-cut or sneaker-style footwear). A Class 2 or higher reflective jacket suitable for cold and wet weather is also required. The environment emphasizes safety, adherence to quality standards, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver efficient and reliable construction and production outcomes.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $100.00/hr.
