Job Description
The Director of Finance provides hands-on leadership across core accounting and finance functions, ensuring accurate, timely, and reliable financial reporting during the engagement. This role oversees general ledger activities, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and month-end and year-end close processes, while producing high-quality financial statements and management reports. The Interim Director supports both operating and capital budgeting, including forecasting, variance analysis, and financial guidance to department leaders. The role also leads financial analysis to support strategic decision-making, maintains robust internal controls, ensures compliance with applicable regulations, and manages the annual audit process as the primary liaison with external auditors. This interim opportunity offers the potential to transition into a full-time role for the right fit.
Responsibilities
Provide hands-on leadership over core accounting and finance functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.
Oversee the month-end and year-end close processes to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial results.
Ensure the accuracy of accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions and related reconciliations.
Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements and management reports to provide clear and reliable information to leadership.
Lead operating and capital budgeting activities, including developing budgets, monitoring performance, and performing variance analysis.
Support department leaders with financial guidance, insights, and analysis to inform operational and strategic decision-making.
Conduct financial analysis to evaluate trends, performance, and opportunities for improvement across the organization.
Implement, maintain, and enhance internal controls to safeguard assets, ensure data integrity, and support compliance with applicable regulations and policies.
Manage and coordinate the annual audit process, serving as the primary liaison with external auditors to ensure accurate and timely completion.
Prepare audit documentation and schedules, respond to auditor inquiries, and address any audit findings or recommendations.
Develop and maintain forecasting models to project financial performance and support long-term planning.
Use advanced Excel functions, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs, to analyze data, build reports, and support decision-making.
Leverage a large-scale ERP system such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, PeopleSoft, Workday, or similar to manage financial data and reporting.
Ensure continuity of financial operations during the interim period and support a smooth transition for any permanent leadership.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve financial processes, reporting accuracy, and overall efficiency.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
7+ years of experience overseeing the month-end close process.
7+ years of experience preparing and analyzing financial statements.
7+ years of budgeting experience, including operating and capital budgets.
7+ years of audit preparation experience, including coordination with external auditors.
5+ years of experience implementing and maintaining internal controls.
Demonstrated experience managing general ledger activities, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
Strong experience with financial analysis, reconciliations, forecasting, and reporting.
Ability to prepare accurate and timely financial statements and management reports.
Proficiency in creating pivot tables and using VLOOKUPs in Microsoft Excel.
Proficiency with a large-scale ERP system such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, PeopleSoft, Workday, or a similar platform.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and compliance.
Ability to lead and influence financial processes in a complex organization.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is a strong plus.
Experience in state or government environments is highly desirable.
Experience supporting both operating and capital budgeting processes.
Demonstrated ability to provide financial guidance and support to department leaders.
Experience strengthening internal controls and improving financial processes.
Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
Interest in an interim role with potential to transition into a full-time opportunity based on performance and organizational fit.
Work Environment
This role follows a hybrid work model, with approximately two days remote and three days onsite each week. You will work in a professional office environment that relies on large-scale ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, PeopleSoft, Workday, or similar platforms, along with advanced use of Microsoft Excel for analysis and reporting. The position involves regular collaboration with finance staff, department leaders, and external auditors, requiring clear communication and coordination. The work setting supports focused, detail-oriented tasks such as month-end close, audit preparation, and budgeting, while also encouraging cross-functional interaction to improve financial processes and support organizational goals.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $110000.00 - $130000.00/yr.
