GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming State Penitentiary is seeking a Vocational Welding Instructor.
The Welding Instructor helps support successful reentry by providing vocational education and hands-on welding instruction to incarcerated individuals within the vocational education program. This position delivers introductory and intermediate welding training, including NCCER Safety and OSHA 10 certification coursework to prepare students for entry-level employment opportunities in the welding industry upon release. Responsibilities include developing and implementing an effective curriculum, monitoring student progress and performance, and fostering a safe, structured, and productive learning environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.
Researches the latest training resource material to develop course curriculum, lesson plans, and other training materials needed to teach activities and objectives; develops individual program plans.
Performs training needs assessment using job analysis, employee surveys, interviews, and other special techniques to determine training effectiveness, identify training needs, and establish specific learning objectives.
Obtains adjunct instructor status with Central Wyoming College; submits all enrollment paperwork and grades for each student to the college.
Develops weekly reports and submits them to the Education Manager.
Completes monthly tool inventory reports.
Attends vocational training with the education department.
Administers standardized tests and functional assessments.
Enters payroll, case notes, attendance, and enrollment/completion in the computer database.
Ensure adherence to all WDOC policies and procedures
Responsible for ensuring a safe and enjoyable workplace, including participation in initiatives designed to promote a positive work environment.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preferences may be given to those candidates with a certificate in welding and the ability to obtain NCCER Certificate for teaching the welding trade.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of basic regulations and practices associated with civil emergency activities.
Knowledge of basic instructional and training procedures and practices.
Knowledge of behavior management principles.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree (typically in Education)
Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Education or Instruction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Vocational Trainer
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Education or Instruction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Vocational Trainer

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
The candidate may be required to lift up to 25 pounds
Must be able to stand and walk on concrete floors for long periods
Walking up and down stairs on an occasional basis
Stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching on an occasional basis
Reaching on a regular basis
Typing/Repetitive motion on a frequent basis
Talking/hearing on a frequent basis
Seeing: the visual ability to perform an activity such as analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading
Pre-service training is required, which includes Krav Maga defensive tactics.
