Job Summary
The Academic Coach is responsible for delivering excellent and relevant academic advisement,
information, and services to all technical college students.
Essential Functions
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the
essential functions.
Advise students on academic requirements and selection of courses, which
would include the following: (70%)
Assist all students in developing and personalizing an education plan
Disseminate information on institutional policies and procedures
Review and interpret placement and other standardized test scores and
course prerequisites
Understand the institution's interpretation of FERPA rules for the
release of student information to faculty, parents, students, etc.
Perform and interpret degree audits
Know graduation requirements for programs
Monitor student registration activities and recommend solutions to
academic difficulties and maintain accurate electronic records of
interactions with students, and to be their advocate when appropriate.
Refer students to the appropriate specialized staff for such issues as
financial aid assistance, career advisement, admissions processes,
business office questions, and tutoring.
Documenting student contact accurately in the TargetX retention
model.
Coordinate communications to the students regarding advisement,
retention, academic calendar, and other related issues, which may include
mass email, text, or phone correspondence as part of recruitment and
Reaching out for Registration (ROR) initiatives. (5%)
Collaborate and serve as a resource to other departments and faculty
as needed, to also include participation in recruitment and
enrollment growth events and initiatives to increase enrollment,
registration, and to accurately assist students in academic
progression and completion. (5%)
Stay abreast of changes in institutional information, including admissions
requirements, new programs, course changes, deadlines, important dates,
costs, expanding facilities, updates in college-wide initiatives, transfer
requirements, and state and federal mandates (5%)
Engage in professional development activities, including but not limited to
memberships in professional organizations, such as NACADA, completing 1
Micro-credential each fiscal year, attending conferences, workshops,
division, and department training sessions; staying current with information
technology skills
Participate in institutional student development and retention programs
Serve as a resource for faculty/staff
Collaborate with divisions in developing advising presentations and
materials to support individual and group sessions. (i.e., create flyers or a
checklist) (5%)
Participates in planning, implementation, and evaluation of the academic
advisement program's goals and objectives. Develop advising materials and
presentations to support individual and group student sessions and
complete administrative reports as assigned. (5%)

Competencies
Proficiency in using Banner, Degree Works, and other student graduation progression software,
TargetX (Engage)
Effective Communication, verbal and written, and ability to provide effective guidance and
communication both face-to-face and virtually using teleconferencing or communication
platforms.
Interpersonal Skills
Specific knowledge of college program completion requirements
Good knowledge of college service availability and related impact on student registration,
progress, financial aid, and program completion requirements
Understanding of FERPA restrictions and proper guidance and assistance within compliance with
privacy acts and restrictions

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office
equipment and technologies.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to
successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use
hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or
hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 25 pounds.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, mainly located on a specific campus or with floating responsibilities across
two or more campuses. Days and hours of work are typically set and specific and generally established
between Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Friday, 8 am until 12 pm (for 40 hours
max). Some of the advertising duties are virtual but can be accomplished on campus. This position does
not require weekend work.
Travel
Travel to other campus locations is occasionally required, as needed. Overnight travel is not required
except in rare instances of external professional development conferences, travel, or meetings
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in a related field and Two (2) years of related work experience
Note: Experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis
Preferred Education and Experience
Two or more years' experience in academic advising or related direct student support in a postsecondary institution
Experience with a student information system such as Banner, Degree Works, or other student
advisement information systems
Master's degree in a related field
Other Duties
As Assigned
Bachelor's degree in a related field and Two (2) years of related work experience.
