Summary This position serves as Without Compensation (WOC) Research Health System Specialist with the Office of Research and Development (ORD). The VA Research Program strives to promote Veteran-centered care to improve patient experiences and outcomes across VA healthcare and community settings, and to advance value-driven care by providing Veterans the highest quality care at the lowest financial burden. Responsibilities Major Duties: The incumbent will work on various studies investigating the biological and psychological aspects of posttraumatic stress disorder; responsible for all aspects of data collection and management which may include the transport of urine, blood, and saliva samples. Additional responsibilities include advertising and recruiting subjects, study document maintenance, and institutional review board correspondence. The incumbent will have direct patient contact during the study recruitment. Work Schedule: Intermittent (Without Compensation) Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 06/01/2026. All applicants must meet the Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) with one of the following criteria: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: major study in hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields such as business or public administration with course work in health care administration (transcripts must be attached). OR Specialized Experience: Progressively responsible analytical or administrative, or clinical management or supervisory experience in the health care field. This work may have been performed in an operating health care facility or a higher organizational echelon with advisory or directional authority over such facilities. The work must have involved a close working relationship with facility managers and analysis and/or coordination of administrative, clinical, or other service activities, and provided knowledge of the following: Missions, organizations, programs, and requirements of health care delivery systems; Regulations and standards of various regulatory and credentialing groups; and Government-wide, agency, and facility systems and requirements in various administrative areas such as budget, personnel, and procurement. AND Basic Requirements: General experience 1) Working with studies that investigate the biological and psychological aspects of posttraumatic stress disorder; 2) Laboratory data collection and management, including the transport of urine, blood, and saliva samples; 3) Advertising and recruitment for study subjects; and 4) Maintaining study documentation and institutional review board correspondence. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is predominantly sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there will be some walking, standing, bending and carrying of items of moderate weight such as large binders, banker style file boxes, meeting materials, papers, books or small parts. Hand and eye coordination for delicate testing procedures may be the only special physical demand required to perform the work.
