Bridge Project Inspector

Job Description

Inspecting bridge construction activities such as foundations, piles, abutments, piers, deck pours, bearings, expansion joints, and structural steel

Verifying compliance with ODOT and project specifications

Observing and documenting materials placement (concrete, rebar, prestressing, coatings, asphalt approaches)

Coordinating materials testing (concrete sampling, strength tests, weld inspections)

Reviewing plans and shop drawings to confirm work aligns with design intent

Tracking quantities and progress for pay estimates and project records

Documenting daily reports, photos, deficiencies, and corrective actions

Working closely with contractors, CTL engineers, and ODOT reps to resolve field issues

Monitoring safety and traffic control, flagging non-compliant or unsafe work

Skills and Requirements

5-10 years of experience minimum

ODOT prequalification for a Structures Inspector

Experience in inspecting bridge construction activities

Prior ODOT experience

Any level of experience in bridge engineering, with a focus on ODOT projects.

Strong knowledge of ODOT design standards, specifications, and procedures. Civil engineering degree or related degree
