As a Medical Assistant and public health employee, you will serve an active role in improving the health of your community. As part of a small, but mighty team, you will play a crucial role in supporting nurses, nurse practitioners (NP), and physicians in preparing clients for a range of medical services. This includes guiding patients to examination rooms, collecting preliminary health information, and assisting with various clinical tasks. Additionally, you will be responsible for managing clinic inventory, ensuring that all necessary medical supplies are in stock and readily available. Under the direction of a nurse, NP, or physician, you may administer medications as prescribed and perform phlebotomy tasks such as drawing blood samples. The role requires a thorough understanding of medical protocols, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to patient safety and care.
This position may include a teleworking option from within Idaho.

Our generous benefits package boosts total compensation for full-time Medical Assistant, transforming the base pay range from $19.06 - $22.42/hour to an estimated total compensation value, including benefits, of $31.05 - $35.15/hour, showcasing our investment in your well-being and professional growth.
Typical Duties:
Candidates must be able to complete the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation and meet all the mandatory qualifications of the position.
Interviews clients and families to gather health information, including reasons for visit, symptoms, medications, and other relevant details
Provides translation services as needed to support effective communication between patients and healthcare staff
Takes temperatures, weights, blood pressure, and pulses as part of patient assessments
Prepares patients for examinations and assists with laboratory work
Administers injections, performs venipuncture, and assists providers during examinations or procedures as needed
Educates patients under the supervision of nurses, nurse practitioners, or physicians
Assists in scheduling patient appointments and referrals
Uses electronic medical records (EMR) proficiently, adhering to agency policies and HIPAA regulations for record retrieval and charting
Processes refill requests, generates labels, and documents in EMR for provider review and approval
Implements infection control procedures and universal precautions while performing duties at SWDH
Maintains CPR certification and is available for general emergency call-backs during national disasters
Minimum Qualifications:
You must possess all the minimum qualifications listed below to qualify for this position. All required experience and/or education must be listed under the work history section of this application OR on your resume and must include a detailed explanation of your roles and responsibilities at each relevant employer.
Minimum Qualifications (MQ):
Successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program and certification or registration by either the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) or American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
LPN license will be accepted in lieu of AAMA or AMT or ARMA certification
MQ Specialty :
Valid Driver's License
Fluency in speaking, writing, and/or reading both English and Spanish.
Ideal Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities :
Experience working in a primary care setting
Compassion for others, especially the underserved
Ability to maintain a team environment
Ability to interact well with clients, team members, providers, and community agencies.
Ability to train others
Knowledge of universal precautions and standards needed in a clinical setting, including knowledge of prevention of transmission of blood-borne pathogens
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and EMRs, or the ability to learn quickly
Proficiency in skilled nursing procedures such as immunizations, blood-draws, wound-care, etc.

Supplemental Information:
This position is not covered by Social Security. Employees do not pay Social Security taxes and will not earn credits toward Social Security retirement, disability, or survivor benefits based on earnings from this job. However, Medicare taxes will still be withheld, and these earnings will count toward Medicare eligibility.
