Katahdin Valley Health Center\ Job Description\ Registered Nurse

Reports To: Nurse Manager\ Status: Hourly\ Facility Location: Varies\ Hours: Varies

POSITION SUMMARY\ The Registered Nurse (RN) will provide nursing care; assist clinical staff while interacting with patients\ of all ages. The RN will work under the under the supervision of the provider and Nurse Manager and\ will work as part of a Care Team to ensure effective and quality care is given to the KVHC patient, in\ accordance with nursing professional standards and KVHC protocols and procedures.

RESPONSIBILITIES\ Performs additional duties or projects as assigned by the Nurse Manager.\ Under the direction of the Nurse Manager and or Provider the RN is responsible for providing\ medical care to patients in the Health Center setting.\ Prepares for the days schedule with a team huddle with provider.\

Triages patient as needed and takes patient vital signs and document.\ Take histories and perform screening procedures as indicated including the Social Determinants as\ indicated for the Nurse.\ Prepares exam room and treatment room with necessary instruments.\

Assist Providers in preparing for minor surgeries and physicals.\

Assists with tests such as EKG, as directed by the provider.\

Administers parenteral medications including routine immunizations, therapeutic injections and\ inhalation medications via nebulizer under the direction of a provider.\ Performs lab tests, e.g. HCT, urinalysis, pregnancy tests, also draw blood and prepare it for\ transport.\ Provides Patient Education as needed.\

Assists in maintaining compliance with quality assurance standards including CLIA and COLA.\ Participate in the Care Team as outlined in Team Approach to Care Protocol.\ Maintain the laboratory and laboratory equipment in good order; maintain proper temperature in\ incubators, refrigerator and freezer, according to CLIA standards.\ Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization.\ Checks charts for lab and x-ray reports for review.\

Work as part of the Clinical Care Team to insure effective and quality care is given to the KVHC\ patient.\ Work as part of the Clinical Care Team by assisting in training of new team members.\ Other Duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager.\

Conducts themselves as a good steward in the communities served by KVHC; represents the\ organization at outreach activities as needed.

Interacts harmoniously and effectively with others. Focusing on the attainment of organization goals\ and objectives through a commitment to team work.\ Conforms to acceptable attendance and punctuality standards as expressed in the employee\ handbook.\ Abides by the organizations compliance program and requirements\

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE\ High school diploma or equivalent, or a combination of education and experience.\ Must be a graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing, and have a current license as a\ Registered Nurse by the state of Maine.\ Must possess the knowledge of Maine State Board of Nursing regulations as applicable to\ licensure.\ Valid State of Maine Drivers license and ability to be insured by KVHCs vehicle insurance\ carrier.\ Must have a current CPR certification.\

Previous Experience with Electronic Health Records preferred.\

Minimum of 2 years experience in a health care setting.\
