Summary This position is located in the Plumbing Shop within the Maintenance and Repair (M&R) Section of Facilities Management Service (FMS) at both the Lyons Campus and the East Orange Campus oft he VA New Jersey Healthcare System. The position involves the installation, modification, repair and maintenance of high-temperature and high pressure piping systems such as steam heating and steam-generating systems. Responsibilities Duties of this position include, but are not limited to: Make necessary repairs and maintenance to all steam related equipment such as, but not limited to, steam hot water heaters, high, medium and low presser reducing stations, steam regulator's, steam traps, condensate receivers' and pumps, steam coils, steam solenoids, steam magnatrol valves, steam mixing valves, steam generators, pilot valves, gages, and steam kettles. Repairs or re-pipe damaged steam lines, and condensate lines to systems up to 100 lbs. of steam pressure. Trained in confined space entry to make necessary repairs in steam pits, vaults and/or confined spaces involving overhead work. Fabricates, installs and repairs various @types of plumbing systems such as water distribution, pumped condensate return systems, air, gas, sanitary and oxygen systems. Performs routine maintenance and repairs. Cleans and unplugs drain stoppages in sanitary and storm sewers by use of plungers, augers, various size snake machines and the power jetting machine. Measures pipe and their required cuts, threads and reams. Perform various duties associated with using blueprints, charts and sketches to plan and layout the installation, maintenance and repair of high temperature, high pressure piping systems and their associated equipment. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Frequently handles, lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment weighting up to 50 pounds. Occasionally lifts or carries items in excess of that weight. Makes repairs and installations on systems and equipment that are in hard to reach areas. Work also requires climbing ladders when performing repairs or installing equipment. Incumbent is trained in confined space entry to make necessary repairs in steam pits, vaults and/or confined spaces involving overhead work. The job requires walking, standing, sitting, stooping, crouching, climbing and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Incumbent is also required to work overhead for extended periods of time when required. Driver's License Requirement: Applicants must possess a valid, unrestricted State driver's license.
