This hands-on Commercial Construction Superintendent role leads field operations to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and to high-quality standards. You will oversee day-to-day site execution for commercial projects typically ranging from $250K to $5M, coordinating subcontractors, managing schedules, and maintaining a strong safety culture across ground-up builds, renovations, and interior projects.
Responsibilities
Lead day-to-day field operations on commercial construction projects ranging from $250K to $5M.
Oversee site activities to ensure work is completed safely, on time, and in accordance with quality standards and project specifications.
Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, ensuring clear communication of scope, schedule, and performance expectations.
Manage and maintain project schedules, sequencing, and look-ahead plans to keep work progressing efficiently.
Promote and enforce a strong safety culture on site, ensuring compliance with OSHA standards and company safety policies.
Interpret and work from construction drawings, specifications, and scopes of work to guide field execution.
Monitor workmanship and materials to verify adherence to plans, codes, and quality requirements.
Communicate regularly with project stakeholders to provide updates on progress, issues, and schedule impacts.
Identify and help resolve field conflicts, constructability issues, and coordination challenges in a timely manner.
Document daily site activities as required, including manpower, work performed, and notable events.
Support the planning and organization of site logistics, including deliveries, equipment, and material staging.
Travel locally to various job sites as needed to manage and support field operations.
Essential Skills
3-5 years of commercial construction experience, including supervision responsibilities.
Proven experience as a commercial construction superintendent managing field operations.
Experience delivering commercial projects in the $250K-$5M range, including ground-up, renovations, and interior projects.
Active and valid OSHA 30 certification.
Clean driving record and ability to travel locally to job sites as needed.
Strong understanding of construction means and methods, scheduling, and subcontractor coordination.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and scopes of work.
Demonstrated experience working with or for general contractors in a commercial setting.
Strong communication skills with the ability to lead and influence field teams.
Proven leadership presence on site, with the ability to supervise and direct multiple subcontractors and trades.
Hands-on approach to construction supervision, with the ability to step in and support field activities as needed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Background in commercial construction environments such as interiors, renovations, and ground-up projects.
Experience working closely with subcontractors, vendors, and project stakeholders to maintain alignment on schedule and scope.
Ability to identify potential schedule or quality issues early and collaborate on solutions.
Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, priorities, and field documentation.
Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and professional job site at all times.
Work Environment
This is an onsite role based in the Richmond, Virginia area, with daily presence required at active construction sites. The first assigned project is an interior church renovation, providing the opportunity to manage detailed interior work within an occupied-community environment. Work takes place in typical commercial construction settings, including active job sites with varying weather exposure, noise levels, and physical conditions. You will regularly interact with subcontractors, vendors, and project stakeholders on site and travel locally between job locations as needed.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.87 - $48.08/hr.
