Position Requirements Job Description The Trade and Quantitative Studies (TQS) section of the Division of International Finance (IF) is looking for a technology analyst to manage and help analyze trade and commodities markets data. The Technology Analyst will provide coding and subject matter expertise as it relates to collection, maintenance and analysis of data using R, Python, Matlab and other relevant software and programming languages. The Trade and Quantitative Studies section produces policy analysis, forecasts, and research on international trade as well as oil and other commodity markets. Much of this work is centered around quantitative models, including the Division's forecasting model of the U.S. net exports, an essential component of the Board's internal GDP forecast. The section also conducts academic research in many areas across international economics and macroeconomics, including oil and commodity prices, international trade, and trade prices. To support this mission, TQS maintains a variety of databases and models. Position Requirements The successful candidate will:· Be proficient in programming in R with additional experience in Python and/or Matlab. · Manage production code using Git and engage in code review using GitLab or other tools.· Serve as section lead on developing AI/LLM infrastructure (e.g. Claude Code) for responsible integration into research and policy work.· Work with economists, financial analysts, data and technology analysts, research assistants, and other staff on projects involving analysis of big data.· Have a strong interest and ability to turn developmental (financial/economic) models into production-ready code. Possess software development experience, including programming, version control, testing, and deployment.· Provide leadership and support for improving the automation, computing, and database environments.· Develop and conduct technical training activities for section members.
