Salary: $230,000 - $240,000
Information Technology (IT) touches almost every aspect of Binghamton University's work and community. As the university continues to grow and implement its new strategic plan, transformation leadership of the information technology function will be critical to its success.
The Chief Information Officer (CIO) will lead, inspire, develop, and manage a talented and engaged professional team with a wide range of responsibilities, knowledge and experience. This leader will empower staff to meet the high expectations of the campus community by supporting and mentoring them in their work, establishing clear priorities and measurable goals, communicating effectively and leading transparently. They will enhance a culture of a highly responsive, reliable, and service-oriented department. Through the use of a customer relationship model and continuous improvement process, the CIO will assure the highest possible services levels are met.
The CIO will report to the Vice President for Operations and will be one of the university's principal technology leaders responsible for academic, research, administrative, security, and infrastructure technology resources and services. The CIO works closely with the provost, all vice presidents, deans of each of the University's colleges and schools, dean of the libraries, vice provost for undergraduate education, and assistant provost and executive director of the center for learning and teaching. The CIO will also work with faculty, staff, students, department heads, and other campus governance leaders to assess current needs and formulate policy, plans and projects for ITS' support of their needs.
The successful candidate will be an individual experienced with the rhythms of teaching and research at a university level, who can foster innovation and excellence and provide vision, leadership, direction, and planning for the academic and research technology part of the University.
Other responsibilities of the CIO include:
Continually evaluate the ITS organization; assessing structure, staff and technology and make recommendations to meet and exceed stakeholder requirements;
Support IT governance; ensure organization is equipped to proactively address stakeholders' future needs and opportunities to better utilize technology. Create an environment where innovation is rewarded;
Oversee the delivery, reliability and security of all IT systems, including networks, data centers, cloud services, and enterprise applications;
Ensure robust cybersecurity practices and compliance with applicable regulations and standards;
Oversee and manage operating budget to assure resources are utilized in the most effective and efficient manner possible;
Supporting the development and implementation of a campus-wide strategy for artificial intelligence;
Collaborate with the State University of New York IT organization and other SUNY CIO's to take advantage of available resources and leverage best practices from across the SUNY system
The CIO at Binghamton University will be a diplomatic leader with a collaborative, open management system that fosters participation and contribution by others. They will have both broad and deep information technology experience, encompassing strategic planning, complex organizational structures, project planning, budget management, process development and transformation. The CIO will be a dynamic leader who combines a service orientation with an energy and enthusiasm toward innovation.

Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree (or higher) in information technology, computer science, or a related field
A minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in information technology, including experience managing complex IT organizations or functions
Demonstrated experience developing and implementing IT strategy in a large, complex organization
Experience leading digital transformation initiatives and managing enterprise-scale systems and infrastructure
Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, risk management, and regulatory compliance
Preferred:
Master's degree (or higher) in a related field
Experience in higher education or similar complex, mission-driven organizations;
Experience supporting or leading artificial intelligence, data science, or advanced analytic initiatives
