Job Description**
This role focuses on packaging large steel plates and sheets to precise customer specifications in a fast-paced industrial environment. You will work on the end of a packaging line, operate material handling equipment, and use hand tools to prepare bundles for shipment while maintaining safety, accuracy, and efficiency throughout your shift. Responsibilities
Work at the end of the packaging line on your feet for the entire shift, ensuring continuous and efficient packaging operations.
Package steel plates and sheets according to detailed customer specifications, including banding large plates of steel and preparing bundles to order requirements.
Learn and apply customer-specific requirements for each order, such as determining if skidded wood runners are needed, how many bands are required, and whether waterproof paper or other protective materials are necessary.
Collaborate closely with another packager to complete 50-100 bundles per day while maintaining quality and consistency.
Handle steel plate and sheet bundles weighing approximately 2,000-5,000 pounds per bundle using appropriate equipment and safe work practices.
Move completed bundles from the end of the line by lifting, positioning, and securing them for shipment or further processing.
Use plastic banding for the majority of packaging tasks, ensuring bands are properly placed and tensioned for secure transport.
Read and follow written work instructions and communicate regularly with the team lead to clarify requirements and resolve issues.
Operate a stacker machine to load coils, build skids, and prepare materials for packaging and shipping.
Use hand tools, including nail guns and staplers, to construct and secure skids, runners, and other packaging components.
Operate an overhead crane to move heavy steel bundles safely within the facility.
Operate a tow motor or forklift to transport materials and finished bundles as needed.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and follow all safety procedures and guidelines.
Adapt to a fast-paced production environment and meet daily production and quality targets.
Essential Skills
Experience working in a fast-paced industrial or manufacturing environment.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly and safely throughout the shift.
Experience using hand tools, such as nail guns, staplers, or similar equipment.
Comfort working on your feet for an entire shift in an industrial setting.
Ability to read and follow written work instructions and communicate effectively with team leads and coworkers.
Basic understanding of general production, packaging, and banding processes.
Ability to work safely around heavy steel materials and large industrial equipment.
Steel toe boots (required personal protective equipment).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working in a steel manufacturing environment.
Experience with overhead crane operation.
Experience packaging steel products, including banding and bundling.
Forklift or tow motor experience in a manufacturing or warehouse setting.
Experience in general labor, manufacturing, or general production roles.
Familiarity with crane operation and safe material handling practices.

Work Environment
This position is based in a steel manufacturing facility that operates a flat rolled service center with advanced equipment, including a stretcher-leveling cut-to-length line, stacker machines, overhead cranes, and tow motors. You will work the second shift from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with paid breaks, in an environment where production demands can be fast paced and physically demanding. The facility can be hot in the summer and cold in the winter, and large garage doors frequently open to allow semi-trucks to drive inside the plant for loading and unloading. You will work primarily on the manufacturing floor alongside a small team, handling heavy steel bundles and using hand tools, banding equipment, and material handling machinery. Steel toe boots are required, and adherence to all safety guidelines and personal protective equipment standards is essential.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr.
