Summary The employee serves as the Electrician lead of the Electric Shop under the Engineering Service at the VA Medical Center, Bay Pines, Florida and reports to the Electric Shop Supervisor. The employee serves as a work leader over 10 WG-2805-10 Electricians, 2 WG-4749-07 Maintenance Workers, and temporary employees as needed. Responsibilities Duties include, but are not limited to: Assign the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group. Work with other employees and sets the pace. Demonstrate proper work methods and sees to it that needed plans, blueprints, materials and tools are available. Obtains needed information or decisions from supervisor on problem that come up during work. Answer questions of other workers on procedures, written instructions and blueprints. Assures that safety and housekeeping rules are followed. Check work while in progress and when finished to see if the supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines have been met. Physical Requirements: Employee makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, platform, hydraulic lifts and other hard to reach places. To complete work, employee will stand, stoop, bend, kneel, twist, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for long periods of time. The employee must lift and carry tools, equipment and parts weighing up to 40 pounds. May also have to lift or move heavy objects over 200 pounds. Working Conditions: The work is performed inside and outside, including in bad weather. Work may need to be completed in areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, greasy and bad smelling. Work may require being at a height of over 50 feet or more and in close quarters such as manholes or attics. They are routinely exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, rotary devices such as electrical motors, sharp edges on metal equipment or parts and pointed objects.
