Job Title: 2nd Shift Production Manager
Job Description
The 2nd Shift Production Manager leads all production activities during the afternoon and evening shift in a chemical and batch-mixing manufacturing environment. This hands-on leader ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality operations while driving key performance indicators (KPIs), motivating production teams, and maintaining strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safety standards.
Responsibilities
Lead daily 2nd shift production operations to consistently meet output, quality, safety, and KPI targets.
Supervise, coach, and develop production staff, including operators, line leads, and material handlers, to build a high-performing team.
Coordinate closely with Quality Control, Research & Development, and Planning teams to ensure smooth batch execution and timely order fulfillment.
Monitor equipment performance during the shift, identify issues early, and escalate maintenance needs to minimize downtime and production interruptions.
Enforce GMP, safety, and compliance standards across all production activities and ensure team adherence to established procedures.
Review batch records and production documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal and regulatory requirements.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on throughput, waste reduction, workflow optimization, and KPI performance.
Support and participate in training programs for new hires and cross-training efforts to build flexibility and capability within the team.
Maintain detailed shift reports and KPI dashboards to communicate performance, issues, and improvement opportunities to high leadership.
Troubleshoot production issues in real time and make quick, informed decisions to keep operations running smoothly.
Essential Skills
3-5+ years of production leadership experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in fragrance, cosmetics, or chemical processing.
Demonstrated experience managing teams in a fast-paced production setting.
Strong understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safety protocols in a chemical or batch-mixing environment.
Proven ability to monitor and drive KPIs and other performance metrics.
Ability to troubleshoot production issues and make quick, informed decisions under time pressure.
Comfort working with batch records, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and ERP systems.
Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to coordinate across multiple departments.
Hands-on leadership style with the ability to motivate and guide operators, line leads, and material handlers.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in chemical, fragrance, cosmetics, or related batch-mixing production environments.
Background in compounding, batching, and batch record review.
Familiarity with production leadership in GMP-regulated settings.
Exposure to quality control processes and collaboration with QC and R&D teams.
Experience implementing or supporting continuous improvement initiatives focused on throughput and waste reduction.

Work Environment
This role operates in a smaller manufacturing facility of approximately 75 employees working across two shifts, supporting the Glendale Heights location. The environment is a chemical and batch-mixing production setting that adheres to GMP standards. You will work closely with cross-functional teams in a hands-on, fast-paced production floor environment where safety, compliance, and operational discipline are priorities. The shift is focused on afternoon and evening hours, managing all 2nd shift production activities in a close-knit, collaborative setting.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $85000.00/yr.
