Job Title: Entry Level Machinist / CNC Machine Operator
Job Description
This entry-level machinist position focuses on operating CNC machines to produce high-quality parts in a busy machine shop. You will ensure machines run continuously, remove finished parts, and perform basic quality checks using micrometers and calipers. Over time, you will gain the skills to perform your own machine setups and offsets, building a strong foundation in a skilled trade.
Pay: $20-24 an hour depending on shift
Responsibilities
Operate CNC machines to keep production running smoothly and consistently.
Monitor machines during operation to ensure they are running correctly and safely.
Remove finished parts from the machine and handle them carefully to avoid damage.
Perform quality checks on finished parts using micrometers, calipers, and other measuring tools.
Verify part dimensions against specifications and tolerances to ensure accuracy.
Report any quality issues, machine problems, or irregularities to the appropriate personnel.
Assist in basic machine adjustments under guidance to maintain part quality.
Maintain a clean and organized work area around the machines.
Follow standard operating procedures, safety guidelines, and shop rules at all times.
Develop skills over time to perform basic machine setups and offsets independently.
Essential Skills
At least 1 year of experience working in a manufacturing environment on a plant floor.
Mechanical aptitude, including experience working with hands, power tools, and hand tools.
Ability to use micrometers and calipers to measure parts accurately.
Ability to read and interpret a basic blueprint.
Proficiency with basic shop math and decimals.
Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.
Comfort working in a machining environment with production equipment.
Willingness to work 2nd, 3rd, or weekend shifts as scheduled.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Previous experience in machining or CNC operation is beneficial but not required for entry-level candidates.
Strong attention to detail when measuring and inspecting parts.
Reliability and consistency in attendance and punctuality.
Ability to follow instructions and learn new processes and setups over time.
Good communication skills to work effectively with supervisors and team members.

Work Environment
The role is based in a large machine shop employing approximately 250 people, including about 130 machinists across five shifts. The facility produces parts of many sizes, ranging from a few pounds up to 10 tons, using CNC machinery and precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers. Multiple shift options are available: 2nd shift runs four 10-hour days Monday through Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., with initial training likely on 1st shift for 4-6 weeks; 3rd shift runs 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Sunday through Thursday; weekend 3rd shift runs Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11:00 p.m. to 11:00 a.m.; and weekend 2nd shift runs Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. The position includes shift premiums for non-day shifts. The shop environment is industrial and fast-paced, with a focus on safety, proper use of tools, and adherence to standard operating procedures.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr.
