Job Title: Senior Manager, Cost AccountingJob Description
The Senior Manager of Cost Accounting plays a key leadership role on the Global Accounting team, overseeing all accounting and reporting activities related to inventory, reserves, and transfer pricing across a global manufacturing network. This position ensures compliance with US GAAP and other statutory requirements, partners closely with cross-functional teams, and leads ERP and automation initiatives to enhance Cost and Operations Accounting processes. The role reports to the Director of Global Accounting Operations and directly manages both onshore and offshore team members.
Responsibilities
Provide leadership and direction to the Global Cost Operations Accounting team to execute all accounting and reporting activities related to inventory, reserves, and transfer pricing for the manufacturing network.
Ensure compliance with US GAAP and relevant statutory reporting requirements for all cost and inventory-related accounting activities.
Partner with FP&A, Supply Chain, Corporate Tax, Disbursements, and Information Systems teams to ensure accurate and timely accounting for inventory, including providing site-level support.
Collaborate with accounting management to ensure proper application and interpretation of US GAAP and adherence to internal accounting policies and procedures.
Serve as the primary point of contact for Corporate External Reporting, Corporate Audit, External Auditors, and Tax Compliance teams, providing audit support, analysis, and reporting as needed.
Lead ERP-related initiatives for Cost and Operations Accounting, including implementations of SAP and S/4HANA, ensuring proper system design, documentation, testing, and user training.
Drive automation initiatives, including Robotics Process Automation, to streamline and improve cost accounting and operational accounting processes.
Lead and manage a team of 4 to 5 onshore professionals in the Global Cost Operations Accounting group, providing coaching, mentorship, performance feedback, and development opportunities.
Oversee and coordinate the work of offshore team members supporting cost operations accounting through an outsourced vendor, ensuring alignment, quality, and timeliness of deliverables.
Lead projects and cross-functional initiatives to improve inventory accounting, cost processes, and internal controls.
Analyze complex financial data related to inventory and cost accounting, providing insights, recommendations, and clear communication to leadership and stakeholders.
Prepare and deliver presentations and reports on inventory, reserves, transfer pricing, and related cost accounting topics to Senior leadership and cross-functional partners.
Ensure robust documentation of processes, controls, and accounting treatments in the cost and inventory areas.
Foster a collaborative, results-oriented culture within the team and across partner functions, promoting continuous improvement and best practices.
Essential Skills
Strong people management and leadership skills, including experience managing teams and supervising contractors or team members.
Advanced cost accounting expertise, preferably gained in a large, complex industry environment such as pharmaceuticals or manufacturing.
Deep technical knowledge of US GAAP in the area of inventory, including reserves and transfer pricing.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or MBA qualification.
Audit or Big 4 public accounting experience.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide clear recommendations.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare and deliver presentations and to bridge cultural differences across global teams.
Detail-oriented approach combined with strong business analytical skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Experience working with general ledger systems, specifically SAP and S/4HANA.
Ability to take initiative and operate with a minimum level of direction while meeting deadlines and quality standards.
Ability to lead projects and work effectively with cross-functional teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in cost accounting within a large, global organization, preferably in the pharmaceutical or related industry.
Big 4 public accounting background, in addition to CPA, is preferred.
Experience leading or supporting ERP implementations, particularly SAP and S/4HANA, in cost and operations accounting areas.
Exposure to or experience with automation initiatives, including Robotics Process Automation, in finance or accounting functions.
Demonstrated ability to supervise and develop teams, including managing offshore or outsourced resources.
Experience working with corporate external reporting, internal audit, external auditors, and tax compliance teams.
Industry experience that includes complex manufacturing and supply chain environments.
Strong presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex cost and inventory concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
Proven ability to work effectively in a global, cross-cultural environment.
Work Environment
This is a remote position aligned to Eastern Standard Time hours, supporting a global accounting organization. The Senior Manager leads a team of 4 to 5 professionals in the Global Cost Operations Accounting group and manages an offshore team through an outsourced vendor based in Kolkata, India. The role involves extensive collaboration with functions such as FP&A, Supply Chain, Corporate Tax, Disbursements, and Information Systems, as well as interaction with Corporate External Reporting, Corporate Audit, External Auditors, and Tax Compliance teams. The technology environment includes SAP, S/4HANA, and common productivity tools such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, along with exposure to automation tools including Robotics Process Automation. The work setting is dynamic and fast-paced, emphasizing cross-functional teamwork, continuous improvement, and a strong focus on accuracy, compliance, and process efficiency.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $53.00 - $90.00/hr.
