Job Title: Lathe Turning Machinist
Job Description
This position is for an experienced Lathe Turning Machinist who sets up, operates, and troubleshoots CNC lathes in a production environment with minimal supervision. You will run parts from start to finish, interpret programs and blueprints, and ensure all components meet strict quality and tolerance requirements. This role suits a self-sufficient machinist who is confident with CNC lathe setup, operation, and programming in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
Responsibilities
Set up and operate CNC lathes in a high-volume production environment.
Perform changeovers efficiently to support varied production runs.
Utilize and understand CNC programming to edit, troubleshoot, and run jobs as needed.
Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions to determine machining requirements.
Inspect machined parts to verify that all quality and tolerance specifications are met.
Use common precision measuring tools, including micrometers, calipers, and gauges, to perform accurate measurements.
Load and work with fixtures and tooling to properly secure and machine parts.
Operate independently with minimal assistance while maintaining productivity and quality standards.
Collaborate with team members and leadership to address machining issues and improve processes.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with shop standards.
Essential Skills
At least 5 years of lathe turning machining experience in a production or similar environment.
Proficiency in setting up and operating CNC lathes, including changeovers and adjustments.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and detailed work instructions.
Strong experience measuring parts using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision tools.
Hands-on experience working with fixtures and tooling for lathe operations.
Demonstrated ability to operate independently with minimal supervision while maintaining quality and throughput.
Experience with CNC lathe programming, including editing and troubleshooting programs on the machine.
Solid understanding of machining principles, including turning operations and tooling selection.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with Mazak CNC lathes and Mazatrol controls.
Background as a Lathe/Turning Machinist in a production machining environment.
General machining and machine operating experience beyond lathes is beneficial.
Familiarity with related shop equipment such as drill presses and shears.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality parts.
Ability to troubleshoot machining issues and suggest process improvements.

Work Environment
This role is based in a production machining facility operating on 10-hour shifts, with day shifts running from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and night shifts running from 3:15 p.m. to 1:45 a.m., with every other Saturday scheduled. The environment centers on CNC lathe operations, including Mazak lathes and Mazatrol controls, along with the use of precision measuring tools, fixtures, drill presses, and shears. Night shift work may be more operator-focused, while candidates with strong programming capabilities may be considered for responsibilities similar to day-shift expectations. The facility maintains a focus on cleanliness, organization, and safety, and you can expect a typical industrial shop setting where appropriate work attire and personal protective equipment are required.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $31.00/hr.
