Summary The Battle Creek VA Medical Center is seeking a Supervisory Podiatrist who will provide a balance of direct patient care and leadership responsibilities. This role includes supervising professional staff, coordinating administrative functions, supporting educational activities, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality podiatric services. The position is located at the Wyoming VA Clinic within Specialty Services. Responsibilities VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Clinical Duties Direct Patient Care: Provides comprehensive diagnostic, preventative, and therapeutic podiatric services to patients, including surgeries, wound care, diagnosis, and treatment of foot and ankle disorders. Complex Cases: Manages complex or difficult cases and serves as a clinical expert for questions and consultations. Supervisory Responsibilities Oversight of Staff: Supervises and evaluates staff podiatrists, residents, and possibly students or other allied health staff. Scheduling/Work Assignments: Oversees clinic schedules, on-call coverage, and distribution of work assignments. Performance Management: Conducts performance appraisals, sets expectations, reviews clinical competence, and addresses performance or conduct issues. Recruitment and Training: Participates in hiring processes and ensures new providers and residents are properly onboarded and trained. Administrative Duties Policy Development: Contributes to formulating and updating clinical policies, procedures, and compliance with regulatory requirements. Quality Assurance: Participates in quality improvement initiatives, monitors outcomes, and ensures adherence to best practices and accreditation standards. Credentialing: Assists in reviewing credentials and privileging for new and existing podiatry staff. Resource Management: May help with budgeting, equipment requests, and supply management. Education & Collaboration Teaching: Involved in teaching, mentoring, and supervising residents, fellows, students, and other trainees. Interdisciplinary Care: Works closely with other departments such as surgery, orthopedics, diabetes management, wound care, and prosthetics as part of an integrated care team. Qualifications Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Podiatrist Basic Requirements Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~ Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.
