Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Construction Inspector to perform on-site construction inspections to observe and verify work performed by contractors and field crews. The role involves monitoring construction activities to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, IDOT standards, and safety requirements. The inspector will document daily construction activities, maintain detailed field notes, and take progress and compliance photos. Additionally, the inspector will measure and record construction quantities for reporting and payment purposes, including submission to IDOT. This position requires the use of wastewater testing and sampling equipment to collect samples for industrial customers, handling and transporting samples properly, and delivering them to laboratories for analysis. Effective communication with project managers and internal teams is essential for providing observations, issues, and progress updates. The inspector will also assist with the preparation of inspection reports, quantity documentation, and other project records while maintaining organized and accurate project documentation throughout the construction process.
Responsibilities
Conduct on-site construction inspections to verify contractor and field crew work.
Monitor construction activities for compliance with project plans, specifications, IDOT standards, and safety requirements.
Document daily construction activities, including detailed field notes and progress photos.
Measure and record construction quantities for reporting and payment purposes, submitting data to IDOT.
Utilize wastewater testing and sampling equipment to collect samples for industrial customers.
Properly label, handle, and transport samples, delivering them to laboratories for analysis.
Communicate observations, issues, and progress updates to project managers and internal teams.
Assist with the preparation of inspection reports, quantity documentation, and project records.
Maintain organized and accurate project documentation throughout the construction process.
Essential Skills
Proficiency in Office 365 and inspection techniques.
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or coursework in construction management, civil engineering technology, or related field preferred.
Prior experience in construction inspection, field inspection, or related construction roles preferred.
Familiarity with IDOT construction standards, specifications, and reporting requirements.
Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
Experience with AutoCAD, OpenRoads, and field inspection processes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
IDOT Documentation Certification desired.
EPA Water/Wastewater Operator Licensure strongly preferred.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites.
Work Environment
The role involves working in a 75% field and 25% office environment, with locations in Decatur or Paris offices. The position reports to the Southern Region Field Supervisor. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $40.00/hr.
