Job Title: Construction Manager - Power GenerationJob Description
This role provides onsite leadership for large-scale combustion turbine construction projects within a power generation environment. The Construction Manager oversees all aspects of onsite execution, with a strong focus on safety, quality, construction oversight, startup and performance testing, and environmental compliance testing. The position tracks progress against project schedules, communicates status to internal leadership and customers, and ensures that projects are delivered in a timely, safe, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible manner.
Responsibilities
Provide onsite management for the execution of large-scale combustion turbine construction projects, including safety oversight, quality control, construction activities, startup testing, performance testing, and environmental compliance testing.
Lead and coordinate field personnel to oversee day-to-day construction activities and provide clear direction and oversight to contractors and subcontractors.
Identify conflicts or errors in construction specifications and ensure all construction work complies with contract specifications and applicable codes and standards.
Drive safety excellence by ensuring all safety policies and procedures are followed and by promoting and reinforcing a strong safety culture across the project.
Partner with safety resources to investigate incidents, perform safety assessments, administer safety programs, and communicate findings and corrective actions to management.
Own and apply QA/QC processes and performance standards to improve outcomes across scheduling, execution, safety, cost control, and quality.
Communicate construction progress, issues, and risks to stakeholders across Safety, Production, Risk, Schedule, Finance, and Quality, and promptly escalate issues requiring immediate management attention.
Coordinate with external contractors and equipment manufacturers and support activities such as permitting support, equipment selection support, project design and specification alignment, schedule development, and cost tracking.
Serve as the onsite point of contact for contractor interface, local government interface, and community relations as needed.
Understand and enforce requirements set by relevant regulatory bodies and ensure compliance in all onsite activities.
Collaborate closely with internal project team members and customers and supervise onsite employees on a daily basis, as applicable.
Develop, manage, and track construction punch lists and ensure timely punch list completion and project closeout.
Validate milestones and quantities submitted by contractors for payment and assist in resolving field issues related to scope, quality, or schedule.
Ensure the quality of construction through continuous monitoring of construction activities and installation quality control processes.
Essential Skills
Proven experience providing onsite construction management and oversight for large-scale power generation projects, with emphasis on combustion turbine projects.
Hands-on experience with power generation projects involving fossil fuels.
Demonstrated ability to lead contractors and subcontractors and drive strict compliance with safety and quality standards.
Strong working knowledge of construction specifications, applicable codes and standards, QA/QC processes, and field execution best practices.
Proven ability to track project schedules, report status, manage risk, and communicate effectively with customers and internal leadership.
Familiarity with regulatory compliance and enforcement requirements from relevant agencies such as occupational safety and transportation regulators.
Strong communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills in a field construction environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Prior experience providing onsite construction management or oversight for major coal and/or gas-fired power plant construction projects.
Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related discipline is preferred.
Experience working on brownfield power generation projects is highly desirable.
Ability to collaborate with equipment manufacturers, contractors, and permitting stakeholders to align design, specifications, schedule, and cost.
Experience administering and supporting safety programs, incident investigations, and safety assessments.
Experience developing and managing punch lists and supporting project closeout activities.
Work Environment
This position is based onsite at a power generation plant in Burlington, Iowa. The role operates in an active industrial power generation environment, requiring regular presence in the field to oversee construction activities, startup and performance testing, and QA/QC processes. The Construction Manager works closely with contractors, subcontractors, equipment manufacturers, and internal project teams in a collaborative, project-driven setting. The work involves exposure to typical power plant conditions, including outdoor work areas, heavy equipment, and ongoing construction activities, and requires adherence to all site-specific safety procedures and personal protective equipment requirements.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
