Summary The Pharmacy Technician will perform a variety of tasks for improvement of workflow, work methods and priorities, assuring timely accomplishment of customer service workload. The incumbent will assist in special assignments or projects are requested. Responsibilities Duties may include but are not limited to: Prepares reports under the direction of a QA Pharmacist, utilizing Microsoft Office products such as Excel and PowerPoint. Answers inquiries from internal and external customers to perform a variety of functions such as canceling prescriptions, tracking delivery status, verifying fill status of prescriptions, and assisting in medication identification. Prepares preliminary reports for internal and external customers from inquiries on QA website. Assists in package recalls, inspecting packages and medications, recording results, notification to the Medical Centers of possible medication errors. Assists with the identification of aging orders to ensure timely processing of prescriptions and release of data to the Medical Centers. Assists the CMOP Quality Manager, Patient Safety Manager (PSM) and other QA personnel with notification of patient information to Medical Centers. Collects data for quality improvement purposes and various special projects as designated by the QA Pharmacist. Complies with all policies and procedures, observes all safety, occupational health and fire protection program standards, regulations, practices and work methods. Participates in safety and health training for the purpose of maintaining a safe and environmentally sound practice. Grade Determinations: Pharmacy Technician, GS-07. Experience: Candidates must possess one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. Certification: For positions above the full performance level, the employee must pass a national certification exam and hold an active national certification through either: (a) PTCB as a CPhT. OR (b) NHA as a ExCPT. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate ALL of the following KSAs: (a) Knowledge of pharmacy technician principles, practices, concepts and theories providing for sound independent work. (b) Knowledge of the computerized prescription process and input of prescriptions and medication orders or electronic equivalent. (c) Ability to resolve pharmacy/medication issues with other members of the healthcare team, Veterans and external customers. (d) Ability to train developmental pharmacy technicians and students. The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-7. Physical Requirements: Work is performed in a highly mechanized warehouse setting around production machinery. Moderate noise and traffic require attention and safety. Some work areas involve moderate risk requiring exercise of safety precautions when operating or working around the automated equipment. (i.e., accumulators, moving belts, etc.). Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory when handling specific medications and in certain areas of production or assignment. The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion and activity, involving standing for prolonged periods of time on hard surfaces, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, stooping, and reaching.
