THE POSITION
As a Medical Records Examiner for the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, you will step into a key role that strengthens care for individuals within the Commonwealth. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This position focuses on reviewing clinical and financial records to ensure that Wilkes-Barre Northeast Skilled Nursing Facilities meet all required standards. The Medical Records Examiner teams cover the geographic area of Bradford, Carbon, Lackawanna, Lehigh, Luzerne, Monroe, Northampton, Pike, Schuylkill, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Wayne, and Wyoming counties. The role supports statewide compliance efforts and involves consistent evaluation and coordination activities. As a Medical Records Examiner, you will perform the following duties:
Clinical Review:Evaluate medical, physical, rehabilitative, restorative, and related care to determine appropriateness
Policy Compliance:Review and apply federal, state, and departmental regulations to ensure provider adherence
Interagency Coordination:Work with other agencies and departments to support services for individuals using long-term living programs
Record Analysis:Examine minimum data set (MDS) data, preadmission screening and resident review (PASRR) processes, clinical documentation, and admission or discharge plans for accuracy and compliance
Financial Oversight:Conduct financial reviews to identify recoveries and confirm proper adjustments to billing and payments
Technical Support:Provide guidance to nursing facility staff to improve understanding of regulations and review processes

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Travel is required.
Home Headquartered: This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Three years of professional experience in the field of medical assistance, health care services, or human services;or
An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
You must possess active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
If you possess an active temporary practice permit, you must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing
You must possess an active motor vehicle license.
