This position is open for external candidates only to apply.
What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Research Tec 3 or 4 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Research Tec 3 ($66,100 - $103,600)
The position offers an opportunity to work on cutting edge technologies in polymer production, both from additive and traditional manufacturing perspectives. The Tec will provide support operations for multiple functions which could include powder mixing for additive manufacturing, machine troubleshooting, machine operation, material characterization, and compression molding. The work will be carried out within a strong and established team that has developed standard procedures for many operations, but a successful candidate will also have the opportunity to suggest new directions and improvements to ongoing research.
Research Tec 4 ($72,800 - $115,400)
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level a Tec would be expected to work more independently and use discretionary judgement within certain limits. The Tec 4 would be able to contribute more to research direction and may be called upon to mentor more junior staff in established procedures.
The Engineered Materials Group (MST-7) is seeking outstanding candidates to support our group's current efforts in polymer additive manufacturing (AM) as well as traditional manufacturing methods and material characterization. The successful candidate will supply logistical support for material handling and movement, carry out material characterization efforts, and may assist with the operation of AM equipment. The candidate is expected to work as part of a tams of Tecs, Technologist, and Scientists.
The Manufacturing R&D Tec will support several teams in MST-7 but will primarily support the Advanced Manufacturing: Prototyping & Materials (AM:PM) Materials and Materials Properties & Performance (MPP) teams . MST-7's mission is to use our materials science expertise to address national security needs. This requires maintaining excellence in fundamental polymer science, innovative materials development, and synthesis of unique thin films coupled with cutting edge materials fabrication processes, advanced characterization techniques and world class ultra-precision design and machining. We apply a multi-disciplinary approach to push the state-of-the-art in engineered materials to be responsive to emergent national security requirements, trusted stakeholders, and production agency needs.
