Summary This position is within the Occupational Health (NFO) organization of the Safety Office (NF), Chief Administrative Office (N), Bonneville Power Administration (BPA). As an Industrial Hygiene Technician, you'll be a key expert supporting programs that safeguard employee and public health. As our Industrial Hygiene Technician, you will be empowered to: Develop and Lead Safety Initiatives: Take the helm of significant safety projects, from data collection for our baseline industrial hygiene program to coordinating large-scale annual respiratory fit testing for employees. Serve as a Technical Authority: Act as a key technical resource, providing expert guidance and analysis on industrial hygiene data, instrumentation, and exposure monitoring to support our team. Drive Process and Program Innovation: Identify opportunities for improvement, then develop, implement, and lead training on new, efficient practices that will elevate our industrial hygiene and occupational health programs. Manage Critical Compliance Systems: Take ownership as the system administrator for the agency-wide Safety Data Sheet (SDS) program, ensuring vital chemical safety information is accurate and accessible. Be a Guardian of Health Information: Apply discretion and confidentiality in managing sensitive personnel records, medical surveillance data, and Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). Influence and Educate: Use your technical knowledge and communication skills to influence, motivate, and train employees at all levels, encouraging a culture that prioritizes and complies with the highest safety standards. Conduct and Analyze Field Research: Utilize advanced instrumentation to gather and analyze crucial data from field environments, transforming your findings into reports that guide our health and safety strategies. Oversee External Partnerships: Manage the maintenance, calibration, and inventory of industrial hygiene equipment, and coordinate with third-party vendors to ensure our tools and services meet rigorous standards. Qualifications SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: experience 1) collecting, analyzing, and reporting on industrial hygiene data from workplace monitoring to determine compliance with occupational health and safety standards; AND 2) Assisting with the administration of occupational health programs by coordinating activities such as employee fit testing, maintaining monitoring equipment, preparing reports on safety metrics, etc. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
